Job Description

Facility Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Location Fayetteville, North Carolina Department Medical Staff Job Family Clerical Work Shift Days (United States of America) Summary Assists in the coordination of credentialing activities in the processing of applications for initial appointment and reappointment, maintaining a current physician/AHP database and maintaining current physician/AHP files. In addition, provides general clerical support to assist in the smooth functioning and operation of the Medical Staff Office. Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Initiates processing of applications for medical staff/AHP appointment to ensure that appropriate verification of information is obtained Initiates processing of applications for medical staff/AHP reappointment to ensure that applications are processed prior to expiration of current appointment Assures medical staff/AHP files are kept current and organized in an orderly manner Assists in maintaining current physician/AHP database Provides back-up to attend meetings and record minutes Responds to requests for information, applications, etc. Answers incoming calls, routes callers, takes messages and gives routine information Performs routine clerical duties to ensure the smooth function of the office Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required Associate's degree in Secretarial Science preferred
Work Experience:
2 years' experience in a responsible secretarial position is required Background in medical staff credentialling in a hospital setting preferred Previous experience in recording and transcribing minutes and with credentialling software preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of regulatory (Joint Commission, CMS, HCQIA) requirements related to medical staff services/credentialing preferred Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint as well as flow charts Excellent organizational skills Written, verbal, and communication skills Ability to work with the public Ability to work with highly sensitive information and materials, therefore, able to keep confidentiality Proficient in operation of typewriter, word processor, calculator, dictating equipment, copy machines, fax machines and multi-line telephone equipment Ability to type at a sustained speed of at least 50 words per minutes
