Job Description

Position Summary Support Staff provide direct support, oversight, and structure for residents in a men's halfway house focused on reentry, recovery, and independent living skills. This position ensures resident safety, supports program compliance, promotes a positive community environment, and assists residents in meeting their goals in accordance with Maine DHHS standards for supervised living programs. The ideal candidate is reliable, calm under pressure, professional, trauma-informed, and comfortable working with justice-involved individuals and people in early recovery. Key ResponsibilitiesResident Support & Supervision Administer medications in accordance wit DHHS regulations Provide consistent supervision of the house and maintain awareness of resident activities during evening hours. Conduct scheduled and random bed checks, wellness checks, and community common-area rounds. Offer motivational support, coaching, and problem-solving assistance related to reentry, employment, recovery, and daily living tasks. Support residents with completing chores, group participation, and evening routines. Safety, Structure & Compliance Enforce house rules, curfews, visitor guidelines, and behavioral expectations fairly and consistently. Monitor for potential safety or behavioral concerns and intervene early using de-escalation techniques. Document all incidents, rule violations, and critical events according to DHHS and program policy. Assist with monitoring supervised self-administration of medication (if applicable). Facility Operations Complete evening shift logs, daily census counts, and communication notes for the oncoming shift. Conduct room checks, cleanliness inspections, and safety walkthroughs. Maintain common-area organization and ensure the facility remains clean and orderly. Assist incoming new residents with basic orientation to the program. Communication & Documentation Record accurate, timely notes in electronic and/or paper logs. Communicate significant resident updates, concerns, or progress to the House Manager. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and case reviews as required. Crisis Response Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies, including medical issues, conflict, relapse behavior, or violations. Contact on-call leadership, police, or medical professionals according to protocol. Complete all required critical incident reports.
Qualifications Required:
CRMA certificate (we will train) High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Ability to pass background checks Strong interpersonal communication skills Ability to maintain boundaries, consistency, and professionalism
Preferred:
Experience in recovery, reentry, corrections, shelter work, or residential treatment Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, or crisis de-escalation CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Familiarity with Maine DHHS standards for residential programs Core Competencies Professionalism & Reliability Conflict Resolution & De-escalation Cultural Competence Teamwork & Communication Trauma-Informed Approach Ethical Boundaries Documentation Accuracy Work Environment & Physical Requirements Residential setting with active interaction with residents Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs Ability to respond quickly to emergencies May require light cleaning or routine facility tasks Compensation Competitive hourly rate based on experience Paid training Opportunities for advancement within the organization Raise with ADCA, CRMA, etc
