Job Description

Job Summary Under general supervision of the Fleet & Facilities Superintendent and/or Designee, the Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness of the assigned City Facilities. Custodial workers will be assigned to City Facilities, including, but not limited to; Library, Police Station, Fire Station, City Hall, Recreation Center, Parks Building, Senior/Community Center, Visitor Center and Museum, and other facilities as designated. Duties will include trash disposal, cleaning and disinfecting of the facility features including windows, bathrooms, kitchen equipment, outdoor areas, weight and exercise rooms and equipment, and all other areas or objects assigned and set-up and/or breakdown of any rented or utilized equipment for events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure all facilities are clean and safe for all staff and community members. Safely operate and use a variety of equipment and products to maintain the cleanliness of all facilities. Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors throughout facilities as necessary or assigned. Clean, scrub, dust, and disinfect facility, including but not limited to: floors, walls, counter tops, doors, doorframes, windows, safety devices, signs, room dividers, toilets, urinals, mirrors, sinks, and other equipment or fixtures. Empty trash and recycling containers appropriately inside facility and replace liners; clean containers as necessary; transport trash and recycling to designated areas for collection. Maintain facility grounds, parking lots, entry ways, and sidewalks, including but not limited to: removal of trash or debris, sweeping, or other maintenance duties to ensure safety and cleanliness. Maintain safety and organization of storage rooms and supplies. Report janitorial supply and equipment needs to supervisor timely for proper replacement. Assist in event set up and/or breakdown, including but not limited to: chair and table set up and breakdown; spill clean up; and other assigned duties. Complete record keeping and documentation of tasks, issues, etc. as directed by supervisor. Utilize proper personal safety equipment, such as gloves, mask, and other items as required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Regular and punctual attendance is required. Schedule will be assigned by supervisor. Work hours may include nights/weekends as scheduled for special events or other duties. Assist other coworkers as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Maintain a high standard of customer service and a professional attitude with all internal and external customers.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Ability to safely use and/or operate equipment, tools, chemicals, solvents, etc. necessary to complete job duties. Ability to follow instructions; safety practices and procedures; and read forms, labels, etc. Ability to effectively organize; utilize strong attention to detail; demonstrate initiative; and work well independently with little direction or supervision. Ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to provide a high level of professionalism in cleaning and during contact with staff or the public. Ability to be punctual and adhere to work schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's license. Must pass a pre-employment screening, background check and employment eligibility verification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
The essential functions of this position are frequently performed in an indoor environment with various physical requirements.

Occasional outdoor duties will be assigned as necessary. Position may be exposed to harsh cleaning chemicals, solvents, bodily fluids, dust, and strong or unpleasant odors. Position requires continual walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, crouching, standing, repetitive motions, pushing, pulling, and lifting of weights between 10-20 pounds. Occasional lifting of weights heavier than 20 pounds may be required. Work schedule will be defined by supervisor.
