Essential Tasks:

Clean and prepare guest rooms, classrooms, and lounges. Sanitize touchpoints in stairwells, entries, and public spaces.

Handle linens:

removing used items, laundering, and preparing fresh bedding.

General maintenance:

vacuuming, mopping, trash removal, and stocking supplies. Physically demanding labor including moving furniture and small appliances.

Requirements & Physical Demands:

Physical Ability:

Must be comfortable lifting up to 35 lbs routinely (and 50 lbs occasionally).

Stamina:

Requires extensive walking, stair climbing, overhead work, and bending/stooping.

Communication:

Ability to communicate effectively with residents and guests.

Background:

Must be able to pass a criminal background check conducted by the agency.

Training Requirements:

The university will provide paid training on Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP), and safety protocols within the first two weeks.

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated Custodian/Janitorial professional to join our facilities maintenance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of our commercial or institutional spaces. Your efforts will ensure a healthy, welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and clients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, reliability, and a proactive approach to custodial tasks. This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to the upkeep and operational excellence of our facilities. Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal across all designated areas Maintain cleanliness of restrooms by sanitizing fixtures, replenishing supplies, and ensuring hygiene standards are met Conduct floor care activities such as buffing, stripping, waxing, and polishing to preserve flooring quality Handle industrial cleaning tasks involving specialized equipment and cleaning agents for large or high-traffic areas Assist with minor maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, repairing fixtures, and reporting larger repair needs Support facilities maintenance by ensuring common areas are safe and free of hazards Follow established safety procedures and use personal protective equipment appropriately during all cleaning activities Keep detailed records of cleaning schedules and supplies inventory Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of custodial duties and uphold cleanliness standards Skills Proven experience in janitorial or custodial roles within commercial or institutional settings Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, floor care procedures, and industrial cleaning equipment Familiarity with facilities maintenance tasks such as minor repairs and painting Ability to operate buffing machines, floor scrubbers, and other custodial machinery safely and effectively Excellent attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality assurance Good communication skills for coordinating with team members and reporting issues Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment This position is essential in fostering a clean, safe environment that supports the operational success of our organization.
