Job Description

TYPING TEST AND WRITTEN EXAM NOTICES WILL BE SENT TO YOU ONCE YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN REVIEWED.
Under general supervision, greets visitors, answers telephones, receives calls for service, dispatches officers and provides customer service support for Animal Control activities and services.
FLSA status:
Non-Exempt. Essential functions included in the job description may include tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Performs customer service tasks in support of animal control services; answers the phone and greets citizens and customers; provides assistance and general information to callers; accepts payments and processes required data and forms for animal redemptions, adoptions, animal licenses, donations, reports, rental agreements and miscellaneous revenue; maintains and balances cash drawer; prepares daily deposits, makes copies, impounds stray animals and owner relinquishments, inventories office supplies, maintains rabies log, files documents, balances trap agreement revenue, sorts incoming mail. Assists with cleaning kennels and handling animals. The employee will be required to work in the presence of supervised Department of Corrections inmates who assist with shelter maintenance duties. Provides assistance and information to customers and citizens with inquiries and complaints. Assists with rabies vaccination clinics; assists with scheduling educational programs on-site and in the community. Forwards license letters to owners; enters work orders for office area, dispatches calls for service to officers in the field. Retrieves calls from office voice mailbox. Works closely with Police Department dispatch.
Knowledge of:
Department policies, procedures, and schedules of activities. Basic office procedures and practices. The City of Sierra Vista's policies, procedures, standards, and software for fiscal services. City policies, procedures, and organizational functions. General City operations, functions, and services. Basic animal identification and behavior. Type 35 w.p.m.
Skill in:
Maintaining records and accounts. Cashiering. Greeting and receiving visitors and telephone callers. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City staff, customers, and the public. Communicating effectively, orally and in writing. Working in a multi-tasking environment. Using office equipment, including personal computer, computer terminal, calculator, telephone, fax, and copier. Multitasking. Using department appropriate software. Working with frustrated and irate citizens. Communicating on radio frequencies.
Ability to:
Work under minimal supervision and in a team environment as required. High school diploma or GED required. Two (2) years experience in general office, cashiering, and customer service. 35 wpm typing certification- original required. (instructions for submitting your typing test will be sent out after your application has been reviewed) Passing written exam score 70% Valid Arizona Driver's license. Must be able to pass Sierra Vista Police Department and Arizona Department of Corrections background check.
SIERRA VISTA POLICE DEPARTMENT CIVILIAN MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Arizona. Candidates must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor criminal offense involving moral turpitude in Arizona, nor in any state or federal jurisdiction, where the commission of such a criminal offense would be a misdemeanor as defined by the Arizona Revised Statutes. Candidates must not have been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.
Candidates must not have:
used marijuana within the past six (6) months, all forms of marijuana, including THC extracts, cannabis, hashish, marijuana extracts, and marijuana edibles, and all forms of use will be treated the same. sold, produced, cultivated, or transported marijuana for sale.
Candidates must not have:
used drugs other than marijuana within the past seven (7) years, used such drugs other than for experimentation; the use of drugs is presumed to be greater than experimentation if the use exceeds five (5) times total, or exceeds one (1) time since the age of 21 years, sold, produced, cultivated or transported for sale any such drugs. Candidates must not have a pattern of abuse of prescription drugs. In addition to the minimum requirements (1-7), the successful candidate must meet the established requirements of each phase in the testing process to proceed to the next phase: Written Examination Nelson Denny Oral Board Interview Background Investigation Polygraph Examination Hearing Examination Candidates must demonstrate that they are mentally and emotionally capable of executing the position requirements. Employees are expected to possess high moral standards, work well in a team effort setting, possess functional verbal and written communication skills, be willing to abide by all Department rules, policies and procedures, and on a rare occasion, work alternative shifts outside normal business hours.
