[From $15.00 per hour] Position Overview Shearer Legal Defense Firm, LLC, a criminal-defense practice serving clients throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area, is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and highly organized Client and Family Support Assistant. This non-attorney position serves as an important point of contact for clients and their families. The assistant will help ensure that communications are handled professionally, questions and concerns are accurately documented, and clients receive timely administrative information regarding appointments, court dates, and case-related procedures. The ideal candidate will be patient and empathetic while maintaining professional boundaries. This individual must be able to communicate calmly with people who may be anxious, frustrated, or experiencing a difficult personal situation. Responsibilities Answer incoming calls and respond professionally to clients and family members Listen carefully to questions and concerns and document communications accurately Explain the firm's general administrative procedures and communication policies Schedule client conferences, telephone calls, video meetings, and office appointments Notify clients of court dates, appointments, and other scheduled events Confirm that clients have received important notices and instructions from the firm Relay messages and relevant information to the attorney Provide authorized, nonlegal status updates using information approved by the attorney Assist clients and families with completing intake forms and submitting requested documents Communicate with incarcerated clients through approved telephone, mail, and facility systems Coordinate attorney-client calls and visits with detention facilities when directed Maintain accurate client contact information and communication logs Track unanswered inquiries and follow up according to firm procedures Help clients understand how to submit documents, make appointments, and use approved communication platforms Assist with general administrative and client-service responsibilities as needed Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. required Prior customer-service, administrative, or client-support experience preferred, but not required Excellent verbal and written communication skills Compassionate and respectful approach to client service Strong listening and conflict-management skills Ability to remain calm and professional during difficult conversations Excellent organization, documentation, and follow-through Ability to follow communication protocols and respect the limits of the position Sound judgment and strict commitment to confidentiality Proficiency with email, calendars, Microsoft Office, and cloud-based systems Ability to learn case-management and detention-facility communication platforms Reliable attendance and punctuality Ability to manage multiple inquiries and priorities with limited supervision Prior experience in a law office, public defender's office, court, social-services organization, medical office, or other confidential client-service environment is preferred. Familiarity with MyCase or another case-management system is a plus. This person will be able to show compassion without making promises, offering personal opinions, or discussing matters beyond their role. The successful candidate will understand that clients and their families may be under significant stress.
