Part-Time Customer Service Representative/Permitting Tech Town of Waxhaw Waxhaw, NC Job Details Part-time From $20 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Teamwork Computer literacy Employee relationship building Research Administrative experience Driver's License Attention to detail Clerical experience Time management Full Job Description Serving in a dual role as Customer Service Representative and Permitting Tech, you will provide exceptional customer service to citizens, contractors, developers and business owners. As the first point of contact for visitors, callers and email inquiries, you will help create a welcoming environment that reflects the Town's commitment to excellence . This experienced administrative and technical support position handles customer inquiries; resolves issues; documents interactions; provides accurate information; and assists with permitting and inspection processes. Strong communication, independent judgment, problem-solving and stress-management skills are essential for success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Customer Service:
Respond to visitor requests in person, over the phone, and via email. Provide prompt and accurate assistance for a positive impact. Direct visitors to the appropriate person or department, ensuring they are welcomed and properly assisted. Maintain awareness of visitors, employees, and the interior and exterior surroundings, remaining alert to changes, safety concerns, or other needs. Resolve customer issues efficiently and effectively. 2.
Permitting:
Assist the public, contractors, developers, business owners and others with permit requirements and processes for permits. Work with minimal supervision to complete complex inspection requests and permit applications relating to residential and commercial projects. Review submitted and proposed permits or applications with customers; process permit applications; issue building permits. Assist citizens, developers, contractors, and others with scheduling inspections and processing re-inspections. Ask questions and conduct research using land records, GIS, tax system and other programs to provide information for each customer's different needs. Maintain contractor database and correspond with state licensing board to verify valid and expired licenses. Receive and process payment of collected fees. 3.
Information Resource:
Respond confidently to routine inquiries about town services. Collaborate with department staff for the best assistance. Utilize resourcefulness and problem-solving skills. 4.
Administrative Support:
Handle various administrative tasks for office operation. Copy, scan documents, process payments with attention to detail. Follow approved cash handling procedures. 5.
Teamwork:
Coordinate workload with team members for task fulfillment. Demonstrate flexibility in task handling and willingness to support the team. 6.
Project Assistance:
Assist the Administration Department in tasks like proofreading, correspondence, research, and grant support. 7.
Event Coordination:
Support the coordination of Administration Department events. 8.
Flag Protocol:
Support adherence to flag protocols for half-staff observances.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Strong customer service skills to handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and friendly manner. Excellent verbal and written communication skills , enabling you to interact confidently with visitors. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective relationships with team members and the public. Team player who can work collaboratively with various stakeholders and adapt to a dynamic work environment. Proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative and anticipate potential challenges or opportunities. Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Ability to assist in problem resolution by understanding and explaining complex policies and practices. Proficiency in using office equipment and software , such as copiers, scanners, Microsoft Office Suite, the Town's Energov permitting software as well as GIS and other programs Basic computer literacy and familiarity with CRM systems. Ability to calmly handle stressful situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & RESOURCES

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Two to five years of customer service, clerical, municipal, or administrative experience are required, with demonstrated growth in the level and scope of responsibilities. Permitting experience is preferred but not required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver's license required Subject to pre-employment substance abuse screening and background check required. Work schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. This position is an on-site position and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.
