Job Description

The primary focus of the Mechanical Service Writer is to inspect trucks, identify needed repairs, and create accurate work orders that align with Ohio Truck Sales' repair philosophy. This position requires good judgment to determine which repairs are necessary and which repairs may not make financial sense. While we want to produce a quality truck, we also have to manage repair costs, turnaround time, and profitability. The Service Writer will work closely with the Purchasing Department and Service Manager to make practical repair decisions and provide feedback on the overall condition and quality of each truck. Key Responsibilities /

Essential Job Functions:

Inspect each truck in accordance with FMCSA Annual Vehicle Inspection Report (49 CFR 396) and Ohio Truck Sales standards Perform test drive of each unit as part of the inspection process Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose all components of each truck; including emissions Communication with Purchasing Department on major issues/misses on truck purchases Document components requiring work and/or replacement to be wrote up on Service Order in accordance with budget of truck Daily communication with all in reporting relationship Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) Performs other job-related duties assigned

Required Education, Skills & Abilities:

High School degree or equivalent CDL is required Must meet Inspector Qualifications per 49 CFR 396.19 Knowledge & Experience of all components and inspection criteria Experience with Microsoft Office is preferred Experience with ERP system is preferred Must be comfortable in a shop environment Physical demands include: Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time May be occasionally required to lift up to 50 lb. Will be required to go up and down stairs multiple times a day Must be able to climb in and out a truck Maybe sitting, squatting or bending during truck inspections

Pay:

$28.50 - $33.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
