COMPENSATION
$23.00 per hour This position has a fixed wage of $23.00 per hour.

POSITION SUMMARY
Pacific Topsoils has served the region since 1978 as a supplier of manufactured topsoil and landscaping materials in the Pacific Northwest. The Customer Service / Product Loading position provides customer service, processes retail and wholesale transactions, evaluates incoming recyclable materials, operates a front-end loader to load customer vehicles (training provided), and supports daily office and yard operations. We are seeking the right fit for a role in Customer Service Product Loading at our Smith Island location. This is a full-time, in-person position that works both indoors and outdoors. The position also serves as an occasional backup to the Logistics function as needed. Logistics support is secondary to the primary Customer Service / Product Loading responsibilities and is not expected to be part of the employee's everyday duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Answer customer questions and assist with the selection, location, price, and use of landscaping materials and supplies. Process retail and wholesale counter sales transactions, calculate prices and taxes, accept payments, make change, and secure funds according to company policy. Answer intercompany phone calls and communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, and management. Inspect incoming customer loads for quantity and acceptable materials. Communicate with equipment operators regarding product and quantity for customer loading. Operate light-duty equipment and a front-end loader to load customer vehicles and perform yard maintenance tasks; training will be provided. Complete office opening and closing procedures according to company policy. Sort and route paperwork to the appropriate departments. Verify and inspect incoming materials from vendors and complete or sign related paperwork as required. Keep shelves, counters, tables, floors, lunch areas, and other work areas clean and orderly; remove garbage as needed. Monitor stock levels of tools, retail items, and office supplies; keep shelves stocked and communicate supply needs. Help maintain appropriate levels of landscape products and yard waste through communication with Dispatch. Monitor customer movement and activity on company property to support safety and attentive customer service. Report accounting, technical, equipment, or other discrepancies and concerns to the appropriate manager or supervisor. Perform equipment safety checks and basic operator-level maintenance as trained and directed. Clean and maintain the yard and driveways to help prevent product from being tracked onto surrounding streets. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Provide backup support to Logistics as needed, including assisting with bagged-material will-call and shipment orders, preparing or routing related order paperwork and records, and labeling shipments for pickup. As backup coverage, communicate with the Logistics Coordinator, drivers, forklift operators, and other appropriate staff to help coordinate fulfillment of sales orders and shipments. Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS 1-3
months of related customer service experience preferred. Experience with material handling, a forklift, front-end loader, or similar motorized loading equipment preferred; training will be provided for company equipment. Cashiering and money-handling experience preferred. Basic experience with Windows and point-of-sale (POS) systems preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and management and to understand work and safety instructions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires regular standing, walking, reaching, climbing, grasping, bending, and periods of sitting. Employees must be able to lift and carry approximately 20 pounds regularly and up to approximately 50 pounds occasionally. Employees are expected to use safe lifting practices and available assistance or equipment when appropriate. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, customer traffic, landscape materials, and operating equipment. Employees are expected to follow all company safety procedures and maintain awareness of customers, coworkers, vehicles, and equipment in the work area.
