Duties Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions. Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and comfort. Take and develop medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper technique and patient safety. Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health. Maintain accurate medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance. Follow strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a sterile environment. Review documentation for accuracy, update medical coding as needed, and assist with administrative tasks related to patient care. Qualifications Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice. Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred. Proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and understanding of anatomy relevant to oral health. Skilled in chairside assisting, including taking vital signs and performing basic medical assessments. Experience with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is highly desirable. Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures. Strong communication skills to educate patients effectively and collaborate with team members. Ability to handle sensitive patient information following HIPAA regulations with professionalism and discretion.
