Job Description

DIVISION
Superior Court
CLASS DEFINITION
This class is accountable for supervising administrative support and operational support services for a Geographical Area court or for a Juvenile Matters court.
GUIDELINES FOR CLASS USE
Positions of the class function as supervisors of administrative staff supporting Geographical Area courts or Juvenile Matters courts. Under their direction staff members perform such work as preparation and management of court case files, serving as courtroom clerks, operating data terminals to record comprehensive case information, processing and carrying out judges' court orders, receiving and accounting for payments made to the courts, and assisting attorneys and litigants in preparing proper paperwork for use by the courts and in following proper procedures.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from a Clerk of the Court or other employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises lower level staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Supervises staff in general clerical, bookkeeping and case processing duties; plans, assigns and directs work to assure accurate and efficient completion of assignments; coordinates tasks of groups of staff members who perform generally similar functions; monitors and assesses staff performance and provides input to their performance evaluations; trains staff in job duties including procedural, statutory and rules requirements and changes thereof; supervises maintenance of office equipment and supply inventories; supervises proper accounting for bank and checking accounts; prepares or oversees preparation of statistical, budgetary, expenditure and other reports as required by the clerk, administrative or presiding judge and judicial administration; performs administrative support and accounting tasks as needed to assure effective operation of the Clerk's office; may attend and participate in support of court sessions; performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of judicial administration; knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; practical application of supervisory techniques to judicial support and court administration; knowledge of accounting and financial control principles and practices; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; advanced skills in report composition and writing; personal computer skills.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience:
Graduation from an accredited law school or a Master's degree in a related field; or six years of administrative support experience in a Clerk's office or in a statewide judicial operations function at the level of Administrative Clerk I.
Substitutions Allowed:
A Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in a Clerk's office or in a statewide judicial court operations function may be substituted for the General Experience.
