Job Description

Job Overview Womansong is Asheville's longest-running women's chorus, and our mission is to sing together for joy, social justice, and community. We seek an Assistant Director who will support the musical goals of Womansong and serve as a leader in providing a nurturing and positive environment for singers' creative expression.
Time Commitment:
Monday evening rehearsals (7-9pm) running August-November, January-May 5 large concerts a year, covering 2 sets of music 3 Saturday rehearsals (10am-2pm) Occasional community performances as available
Compensation:
$700/month, continuation past December 2026 contingent upon funding
Required Skills Musical:
Vocal and piano skills, choral conducting, small ensemble leadership.
Human relations:
Positive and effective communication in person and in writing.
Administrative:
Organizational skills, time management, able to work independently and in collaboration with others.
Tech-savvy:
Fluent in electronic mediums such as Google Docs, notational software of choice, choir management software; ability to record and edit sound recordings for rehearsal tracks. Responsibilities Collaborate with Artistic Director in general administration of the chorus: Repertoire Selection and Preparation Assist the Artistic Director and music selection committee in researching and selecting repertoire that meets the choir's goals and interests. Create rehearsal tracks and other learning tools for singers. Contact publishers for scores that can be converted to Braille. Large Ensemble Leadership Sing as member of the chorus in section of choice. Conduct 1-3 songs each concert season. Lead sectional rehearsals outside of large rehearsal. Assist with new member and solo auditions. Assist with coaching soloists. Assist in administration of Chorus Connection, our online choral management system. Small Ensemble Leadership Lead or assist in leading a small ensemble performance of one song each concert series. Lead or assist in leading side gigs of small groups (6-12 singers) in community settings. Communication with the Public Research performance opportunities and respond to inquiries from groups interested in engaging Womansong for performances. Assist website editor to ensure Womansong has a positive, accurate, and engaging presence online. Assist performance chair in the scouting and evaluation of potential venues. Additional Projects Additional projects as appropriate to the well-being of the choir and as aligned with the Assistant Director's skills, interests, ideas, and passions.
