Job Description:
Nassau Community College (NCC) is seeking a full-time Illustrator I to prepare the design and layout of art work for the production of a variety of graphic materials, and perform related duties, as required. Under direct supervision, the position requires the designing, planning, and production of art work. Assignments are received in the form of work sheets of general objectives, and procedures and techniques are determined independently. In addition, the full-time Illustrator I will: Design, prepare comprehensive layout, and select type face for graphic material. Reproduce charts, graphs, and maps to designated scale; assembles and prepare statistical charts. Prepare layouts for two and three-color overlays for leaflets and flyers. Illustrate layouts by means of photos, sketches, cutouts, cartoons, phototype, and other form of lettering. Design and letter covers for reports, brochures, and leaflets.
Requirements:
The minimum qualifications include Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with major course work in commercial art or closely related field. Experience in commercial art or illustration may be substituted for formal education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of six years, provided that course work in art and design have been completed. The full-time Illustrator I should have: Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of illustration. Considerable knowledge of the techniques and operations used in the preparation of copy for graphic arts material. Considerable knowledge of the fundamentals of perspective, design, color, harmony, and composition. Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in illustration. Ability to create effective and artistic formats for books, booklets, and magazines. Ability to prepare designs and illustrations, to do original lettering and layouts and to prepare related displays. Candidate must be a current resident of Nassau County for at least one (1) year.
Additional Information:
The full-time Illustrator I position is a Grade 9, non-competitive Civil Service title. The starting salary is $40,146 per year. After one (1) year, the salary will increase to $62,923.
