SPARK STUDIOS PART-TIME TEACHING ARTIST
Poughkeepsie, NY
THE ART EFFECT
The Art Effect empowers youth to develop their artistic voice to shape their futures and bring about positive social change. Based in Poughkeepsie, we help young people in the Hudson Valley explore, experience, and excel in the arts, introducing them to visual arts and media, giving them the opportunity to develop real skills in these fields, and guiding them toward achieving their academic and career goals. Job Description The Art Effect is seeking an engaging, creative, and enthusiastic teaching artist to support Spark Studios, a media arts creative workforce development program for youth ages 14-19. Youth receive hands-on training and practice in filmmaking and videography within the context of entrepreneurship and job skills training, all while earning an hourly wage. The Teaching Artist is responsible for guiding a group of teenagers through the pre-production, production, and post-production processes of creating multiple photography and videography projects. The Teaching Artist oversees student work and is responsible for student growth, as well as the quality of production value and media messaging in student products. The Part-Time Teaching Artist reports to the Program Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Teaching Artist for the Spark Studios workforce program, including providing input on the Spark Studios program curriculum and supervising the youth.
  • Assist the Media Program Manager in curriculum planning, tracking attendance, keeping activity logs, overseeing student management of media files, and performing other administrative duties relevant to the program.
  • Serve as a positive role model to the youth in the program, supporting an inclusive program environment for a diverse group of youth.
  • Guide youth through creating media arts projects using Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant programs.
  • Provide on-site assistance at Spark Studios related events.
  • On-set working experience and knowledge of and/or experience with Canon DSLRs, Canon cinema & Sony mirrorless cameras are a plus.
  • Drive 12-person passenger van to transport students to off site locations and field trips.
Dates of Employment:
This is a seasonal position beginning in June 2026 and covering program dates for July 6 - August 21, 2026, Monday - Thursday, 9:30am-5:30pm. Specific start and end dates will be negotiated with the successful candidate with the possibility to continue employment beyond the summer program.
Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
