Sketch Lab Instructor (Part-Time) The Art Factory | Blacksburg, VA Are you an artist who loves helping young people discover that they can draw? The Art Factory is looking for a talented artist with a passion for teaching to lead Sketch Lab 1 & Sketch Lab 2 beginning in September 2026 . Sketch Lab is more than a drawing class. It's a place where students build confidence, develop technical skills, and learn to truly see the world like an artist. From line and shape to light, shadow, perspective, and composition, you'll help students develop the foundational skills that allow their creativity to flourish. We're looking for someone who not only has strong artistic ability, but also understands how to break complex drawing concepts into approachable, engaging lessons that inspire children to keep practicing and growing. What You'll Do Teach foundational and intermediate drawing techniques to elementary and middle school students. Demonstrate concepts such as line, value, proportion, perspective, shading, composition, and observation. Break down artistic techniques into clear, engaging, age-appropriate instruction. Encourage students of all skill levels while building confidence and a love of drawing. Create a positive, welcoming classroom where creativity and effort are celebrated. Provide individualized feedback and support as students progress at different rates. We're Looking For Someone Who... Has exceptional drawing skills and a strong understanding of artistic fundamentals. Enjoys working with children and knows how to make learning engaging and encouraging. Has strong classroom management skills. Can explain artistic concepts in simple, understandable ways. Is patient, positive, enthusiastic, and supportive. Loves seeing young artists gain confidence through practice. Is dependable, organized, and excited to be part of a collaborative teaching team. Qualifications Preferred Strong portfolio demonstrating technical drawing ability. Experience working with children in an educational, camp, or youth setting. Experience teaching drawing or visual arts is a plus. Background in fine art, illustration, art education, or a related field is welcomed.
