An Audio or Visual Technician operates sound and video equipment for concerts, sports events, news conferences or presentations at business meetings or conventions. Sets up wiring and cables as needed for an equipment system, which may include microphones, speakers, sound mixing and recording equipment and video equipment; may also work with specialized lighting equipment.
Location CONUS-based; preference for Mascoutah, Illinois / Greater St. Louis area Travel Approximately 50-60% Security U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) clearance Position Summary The AV Field Technician is responsible for the installation, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of Audio Visual (AV), Video Teleconferencing (VTC), and related low-voltage systems supporting Modtech Solutions projects. The position works primarily in field environments, including Department of Defense and other U.S. Government facilities. The ideal candidate is technically capable, dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working as part of a project team in secure and mission-critical environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install AV and VTC systems in accordance with approved system designs, drawings, manufacturer requirements, and project specifications. Install AV equipment including displays, projectors, speakers, microphones, cameras, control interfaces, equipment racks, and associated system components. Install and terminate AV and low-voltage cabling, including copper, fiber optic, category cable, speaker cable, control cable, and other system-specific cabling. Install cable pathway and support systems including cable tray, J-hooks, D-rings, cable racks, and other approved cable management systems. Build out AV equipment racks, telecommunications rooms, equipment rooms, and associated field infrastructure. Dress, route, terminate, test, label, and document cabling in accordance with project requirements and industry standards. Perform copper and fiber optic cable testing and certification utilizing appropriate test equipment. Assist with system testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and final acceptance activities. Troubleshoot AV equipment, cabling, signal paths, connectivity, and other system installation issues. Read and comprehend system drawings, floor plans, elevations, rack elevations, cable schedules, and installation details. Perform accurate field markups and redlines to support final as-built documentation. Maintain required project documentation, including installation records, test results, field reports, and other project deliverables within established timeframes. Coordinate with Lead Installers, Project Managers, Engineers, other trades, Government personnel, and customers as required to execute project work. Maintain professional customer relationships and represent Modtech Solutions appropriately at customer locations. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and comply with applicable safety requirements, codes, standards, site regulations, and Modtech procedures. Required Qualifications Experience installing commercial or Government AV, VTC, telecommunications, or other low-voltage systems. Working knowledge of AV equipment, structured cabling, cable termination, equipment racks, and installation practices. Ability to troubleshoot installation and connectivity issues in a field environment. Ability to work effectively as part of a field installation team. Ability to read and understand technical drawings, system diagrams, rack elevations, floor plans, and installation documentation. Ability to use common AV, telecommunications, electrical, and low-voltage installation tools and test equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to installation quality, safety, and professional conduct. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, subcontractors, and Government personnel. Ability to work at heights, use ladders and lifts, and perform the physical activities associated with field installation. Valid driver's license. U.S. citizenship required. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret (TS) security clearance. Preferred Qualifications Active U.S. Government security clearance strongly preferred. Current or former U.S. military service preferred. Experience supporting Department of Defense or other U.S. Government facilities. Experience working in secure or classified Government facilities. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Experience with AV systems from manufacturers such as Extron, Crestron, Biamp, QSC, Cisco, Shure, or similar professional AV platforms. AVIXA, BICSI, manufacturer, fiber optic, or other relevant industry certifications. Experience with fiber optic termination, testing, and troubleshooting. Location and Travel This is a CONUS-based field position. Preference will be given to candidates located near Modtech Solutions' warehouse and operations facility in Mascoutah, Illinois / Greater St. Louis area. Candidates located elsewhere within the continental United States may be considered based on qualifications and ability to support project requirements. Approximately 50-60% travel is required to support projects at Department of Defense and other U.S. Government facilities throughout the United States. Travel assignments may vary in duration and may occasionally require extended stays at project locations. Candidates must be comfortable traveling by commercial air and vehicle and working at military installations, secure facilities, active construction sites, and other Government locations.
