Botanica opened in 1987 and hosts thousands of guests each year. Winner of multiple national and regional awards, Botanica is known for its robust plant collections, outdoor sculptures, annual tulip display, and holiday light show. The volunteer core work in a variety of capacities across the gardens and are instrumental members of the Botanica Team. This is a seasonal position, 25-30 hours per week. Evening, weekend, and holiday work required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
This is a manual work position that provides various production support services for event setup, preparation, installation, including general maintenance and repairs of exhibition materials. The position reports to the Productions Technician.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
  • Assist with the AV and Lighting setup, operation, and teardown of special events and seasonal exhibits.
  • Start, monitor, and shut down scheduled light show performances while ensuring proper operation of show systems.
  • Monitor attractions and show equipment during public operating hours to provide a safe and enjoyable guest experience.
  • Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance of show equipment before, during, and after operation.
  • Assist guests by answering questions, providing directions, and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Complete opening and closing procedures for assigned areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
Knowledge of electronic materials and equipment Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to acquire within a reasonable period of time, knowledge of the procedures, tools, equipment and materials used in the installation and maintenance process for major events Ability to work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist Ability to safely operate golf carts and maintenance vehicles Ability to tolerate airborne nuisances associated with open grounds and windy conditions Ability to lift and carry bulky items weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to be continuously performing tasks that require one to push, pull, climb (ladders and in and out of vehicular equipment), bend, twist, reach, stand, and walk about (up to a half mile at a time) for most of an eight-hour shift Ability to communicate effectively An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship. Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory evaluation of a criminal record check.
