Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior AV Installation Technician to support projects throughout New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area. This is not a guaranteed full-time position. Work will be assigned on a project-by-project basis according to project requirements, location, schedule, and the contractor's availability. The successful candidate will serve as SHIK's field leader: coordinating installation technicians, resolving onsite technical issues, maintaining quality standards, and working with SHIK project managers, remote engineers, programmers, manufacturers, and subcontractors. This role is suitable for an experienced AV field engineer, lead technician, independent contractor, or owner of a small AV installation company interested in developing a long-term project partnership. Following the successful completion of several projects, the company may consider offering the right candidate a long-term, permanent position. Key Responsibilities Conduct onsite surveys and document existing conditions Review drawings, scopes of work, elevations, equipment lists, and signal-flow diagrams Identify installation requirements, risks, dependencies, and labor needs Develop practical field installation plans Determine the number and type of installation technicians required Lead and supervise subcontracted installation crews Coordinate onsite activities with SHIK project management and engineering Install professional displays, DVLED video walls, mounts, racks, cameras, microphones, speakers, and other AV equipment Supervise structured cabling, Cat6/Cat6A, fiber, terminations, labeling, and testing Perform rack assembly, equipment installation, cable management, and system connections Verify AV signal flow, network connectivity, power, and device communication Support remote Crestron, Q-SYS, DSP, control-system, and network engineers Troubleshoot installation, hardware, cabling, signal, and basic network issues Perform system testing, commissioning, quality control, and punch-list completion Coordinate corrections and remediation with installers and subcontractors Support client demonstrations, training, documentation, and final handover Provide post-installation and warranty support when separately authorized DVLED Responsibilities Candidates with direct-view LED experience should be able to support or lead: Verification of wall dimensions, structure, power, ventilation, and service access Installation of mounting structures and LED cabinets Precise cabinet and module alignment Power and data distribution LED processor and sending-card configuration Receiving-card configuration and configuration-file management Resolution, scaling, input mapping, brightness, and color adjustment Module, power-supply, receiving-card, and data-path troubleshooting Burn-in testing, calibration coordination, and final commissioning Required Qualifications At least five years of commercial AV, low-voltage, or systems integration field experience Previous experience as a lead technician, field engineer, foreman, or onsite project lead Ability to manage installation technicians while remaining actively involved in the work Strong understanding of commercial AV installation and signal flow Experience with professional displays, racks, structured cabling, and network-connected AV equipment Ability to read construction drawings, AV drawings, elevations, and scopes of work Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Basic understanding of IP networks, device addressing, VLANs, PoE, and network connectivity Ability to communicate professionally with customers, project managers, engineers, and subcontractors Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to travel throughout New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area Ability to provide professional references and examples of completed projects Legal authorization to perform work in the United States Preferred Qualifications Commercial DVLED installation and commissioning experience Experience with Planar/Leyard, Unilumin, Absen, Samsung, LG, or similar LED manufacturers Experience with NovaStar, Brompton, Colorlight, or comparable LED processing platforms Familiarity with Q-SYS, Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Shure, Poly, BrightSign, or similar systems OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification CTS, CTS-I, BICSI, manufacturer certifications, or relevant technical training Fiber termination and testing experience Lift certification Ability to provide or coordinate additional qualified installation technicians Established independent business, insurance coverage, and standard contractor documentation Engagement Structure Assignments are offered on a project-by-project basis No minimum number of hours or projects is guaranteed Scope, schedule, travel requirements, and compensation are agreed upon before each assignment Engagements may include site surveys, single-day service calls, commissioning assignments, or multi-week installations Additional travel and approved project expenses will be addressed in the individual project agreement Strong performance may lead to recurring assignments and a long-term technical delivery partnership with SHIK systems Please submit: Current location and geographic service area Examples and photographs of completed commercial AV or DVLED projects Description of your personal responsibilities on those projects Relevant certifications and manufacturer experience General availability
