293098165 Job Description This position is responsible for part-time broadcast operation duties, including the recording and ingesting of all on-air program and promotional content for four on-air program streams and three cable channels originating from the KSPS Operation Center. Positions in this class operate and monitor television master control-related equipment, including computer automation, asset management and traffic systems, television broadcast transmitters, video/audio switchers, videotape machines, EAS equipment, and satellite receive equipment. The part-time MCO/Traffic Specialist position is considered a fill-in position; therefore, individuals in this class are expected to work fill-in shifts as required. Work must conform to Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations. This is an in-office position. Job Duties/Responsibilities Operate Master Control equipment, including BroadStream Oasys Automation and Playout Server, MassTech Asset Management, Apantac Monitor Wall systems, Burke Transmitter Remote Control, XDCAM, DVCPRO ¼" and Beta ½" VTRs, Kumulate Tape Archive, and Premiere Pro Mac Editor. Review, monitor, and adjust on-air play and record lists associated with the station's BroadStream Automation System as needed. Monitor network (sIX) file downloads and satellite program feeds, and prepare all network programming for on-air use using BroadStream Automation. Perform program FTP file transfers as requested by Traffic or Programming. Operate the BroadStream Maker Server to record required on-air programming into the station's BroadStream playout servers for multiple services, including
KSPS 7.1, KSPS
World, KSPS Create, KSPS Kids, and Ch-17 (District 81). Operate and monitor the station's Satellite Downlink System, including fixed and steerable satellite dishes, and monitor Classic Arts and DirecTV feeds. Maintain program and transmitter logs, operate and monitor SAGE Emergency Alert System equipment, and perform EAS tests or announcements in accordance with station policy and FCC rules. Monitor all program streams during station breaks and document on program logs that scheduled content is airing correctly, audio and video levels are within standards, and Closed Captions and DVI Audio are present as required. Use the Myers/ProTrack Traffic system to verify recording metadata and schedule (sIX) file downloads when necessary. Monitor MyPBS Advisories and Refeeds for notifications of impaired or re-fed network programming. Use Myers/ProTrack Traffic Software and BroadStream Oasys Automation to build and generate program logs and automation playlists for up to five channels. This includes scheduling interstitial content such as promos, station events, and station IDs, as well as managing station bugs, pledge graphics, and other automated system commands. Export program logs to the BroadStream Automation System to create automated playlists for KSPS-TV broadcast streams, and use Oasys Designer to verify and update program data and content durations across multiple sources. When required, write concise Discrepancy, Equipment Malfunction, FCC Closed Caption Compliance, and EAS Evaluation Reports documenting on-air events for FCC compliance and troubleshooting.
Job Qualifications Education/Experience:
Advanced studies in Broadcast Communications preferred, but not required Prior experience in a television operating environment involving daily operations, scheduling, and logging is preferred.
Certificates/Licenses:
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, Myers ProTrack, and BroadStream Automation preferred Familiarity with television production and broadcast equipment, including video/audio monitors, graphics systems, video playback devices, and switchers
Physical Abilities:
Ability to sit, stand, and walk regularly; frequently lift, push/pull, carry, grasp, and reach; and occasionally climb, stoop/crouch, crawl, or use the senses of taste or smell. Must be able to clearly see at distances of 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses, and distinguish colors (no color blindness).

Ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing conditions, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interpret and explain technical or business information Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Dependable, with the ability to follow instructions and exercise sound judgment in decision-making Salary Range is $24 - $25 per hour, depending on qualifications Benefits offered include: Part-time, hourly non-exempt This position is 32-39 hours per week. The regular schedule includes 12-hour shifts on weekends (Saturday and Sunday, 12:15 p.m. - 12:15 a.m.). The remaining hours are scheduled during normal business hours throughout the week and will be dedicated to traffic and other administrative duties. Eligible for turnaround pay if scheduled to work back-to-back shifts with less than 10 hours between shifts. Turnaround hours are paid at time and half.
