Job Description
Freelance Branding & Concept Creative Professional Purohit Navigation United States, Illinois, Chicago 233 South Wacker Drive (Show on map) Sep 03, 2026
JOB SUMMARY The Branding & Concept Creative is a freelance practitioner who supports PNAV's creative practice across both planned initiatives and short-notice requests. The role blends conceptual thinking with hands-on execution: the creative develops original concepts, creative territories, and brand identities grounded in strategic and scientific inputs provided by PNAV teams, while respecting the realities of pharmaceutical marketing - including the medical, legal, and regulatory (MLR) review. The creative works within PNAV processes and takes direction from creative lead(s). Concepts must be ownable, differentiated, and able to hold their core idea through MLR review; identity work must build systems that hold together across every channel a pharmaceutical brand touches. Because project(s) can arrive with compressed timelines, availability and responsiveness are as important as creative skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Concept & Campaign Development Develop original concepts, creative territories, and campaign platforms for pharmaceutical brands, grounded in strategic and scientific inputs provided by PNAV teams
Translate brand strategy, positioning, and scientific narratives into distinct creative territories with clear rationale
Develop campaign concepts across the brand lifecycle, from pre-launch disease awareness through launch and mature-brand refresh
Create concept boards, mood boards, and visual explorations that make abstract strategy tangible for client presentation
Contribute naming, taglines, and messaging concepts in partnership with strategy leads
Brand Identity & Visual System Development Develop visual identity systems - logos, color systems, typography, iconography, and graphic elements - for new brands, and refresh existing ones while preserving brand equity
Establish flexible design systems that work across personal and non-personal channels, including sales aids, congress materials, websites, and digital media
Build style guides and toolkits that internal teams and other vendors can execute against consistently
Creative Execution & Elevation
Execute at a high level beyond concepting: adapt winning concepts into pitch decks, mock-ups, and comps that bring ideas to life for client review
Strengthen work in progress by refining layouts, sharpening visual hierarchy, and ensuring finished pieces are polished and professionally presented
Proactively catch off-brand elements, inconsistent treatments, and stray formatting
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Adhere to project scopes, responsibilities, and timelines; proactively flag risks or capacity concerns to the team
Confirm receipt of requests promptly and communicate availability, including for rush work
Maintain organized, editable source files and assets across active projects
Keep creative lead informed of all relevant project developments
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
Takes direction from internal creative lead(s). Partners with strategy team members on naming, taglines, and messaging concepts. Collaborates with the creative team as concepts move into execution, and delivers organized, editable source files that PNAV teams can build upon.
External:
No direct client relationship ownership. Concept and identity work is presented to clients by PNAV internal teams; the creative may support client presentations as directed but is not the primary client contact.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Remote and/or in-office engagement depending on the needs of the project
Supports both planned initiatives and short-notice requests
Travel terms as required by the terms and needs of the project
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Required Several years of dedicated brand and concept creative experience, whether from an agency, an in-house creative team, or an established freelance practice, with a portfolio of campaign and identity work
Fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud - Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
Strong conceptual and design fundamentals: idea generation, visual storytelling, typography, composition, and color
Ability to deliver organized, editable source files that PNAV teams can build upon
Exceptional attention to detail; proactively catches off-brand and inconsistent elements
Takes direction well, asks clarifying questions early rather than guessing, and handles feedback without friction, including feedback driven by regulatory constraints rather than aesthetics
Reliability is absolutely key: communicates honestly, confirms requests promptly, and holds committed deadlines, including the occasional same-day or next-morning turnaround
Preferred
Experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical marketing, including familiarity with the MLR review process, fair balance and ISI requirements, and the distinction between HCP and patient audiences
Working knowledge of Figma and PowerPoint
Experience contributing to naming, tagline, and messaging development
Prior experience supporting new business pitches and RFP responses
