Event-Based Compensation:

$600-$2,000+ per event assignment Event assignments are generally compensated at a flat event rate rather than hourly. Standard wedding assignments start at approximately $600 per event, with higher compensation based on the assignment, experience, specialty skills, event requirements and premium service upgrades. Higher-level assignments can pay $2,000 or more per event.

We're looking for DJs who love performing, mixing music, reading a crowd and creating packed dance floors. We handle the sales, marketing, contracts, billing and much of the client planning and event infrastructure so our DJs can focus on what they do best: Show up prepared, rock great events and get paid. Our ideal candidate already has significant wedding DJ/MC experience and is looking for a steady source of high-quality events without having to operate their own entertainment company. But that's not the only person we're interested in. If you're a talented DJ with strong mixing skills, great musical instincts, professionalism and personality—but don't have extensive wedding experience yet—we still want to hear from you. We are willing to train the right person. Our DJs perform at venues throughout Chicago and the Chicagoland suburbs, backed by an experienced sales, planning and event-operations team. We're not looking for someone to simply press play on a playlist. We're looking for actual DJs who understand music, mixing, energy and how to read a room. What You'll Do As an Okyne DJ, you'll: DJ weddings, corporate events and private events throughout Chicagoland Mix music live and adapt throughout the event based on the crowd Serve as an MC and make professional announcements when required Review event details and music preferences before each assignment Coordinate with Okyne's Event Specialist and other event professionals Arrive on time, professionally dressed and fully prepared Set up and operate your DJ equipment and assigned production equipment Represent the Okyne Entertainment Group brand professionally Help create an exceptional experience for our clients and their guests Who We're Looking For We are interested in both experienced wedding DJs and talented developing DJs. Experienced DJs You may be a great fit if you: Have significant wedding, corporate or private-event DJ experience Are confident mixing live and reading different types of crowds Are comfortable and polished on a microphone Have broad music knowledge across generations and genres Want consistent event opportunities without having to find and sell your own clients Enjoy DJing as a serious professional side gig alongside another career Prefer performing events over running the sales, marketing and administrative side of a DJ business Developing DJs Don't have a long wedding resume yet? That's okay. We are also interested in DJs who: Have legitimate DJ/mixing skills Understand phrasing, transitions, programming and crowd energy Have strong music knowledge Are personable, professional and coachable Want to learn how to DJ weddings and upscale events Are willing to complete paid training and Shadow/Assist assignments before being assigned their own events Equipment Candidates should ideally own a basic professional DJ setup, including a reliable laptop and professional DJ controller. Owning a complete mobile DJ system is a plus, but not required for an exceptional candidate. Okyne Entertainment Group can provide equipment such as: Professional PA speakers/subwoofers Wireless microphones Event lighting Ceremony audio equipment Additional production equipment We're much more interested in finding a great DJ than finding someone who happens to own a lot of equipment. Schedule & Availability Most assignments take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday , with Saturdays being particularly important. Our busiest wedding season typically runs from spring through late fall. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a traditional weekday career who wants to DJ professionally on weekends without having to operate their own DJ company. You are not required to be available every weekend, but regular Saturday availability is required , particularly during our peak wedding season. Reliable transportation throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs is required. Compensation $600-$2,000 per event Standard wedding/event assignments start at approximately $600 , with higher compensation available based on the assignment, experience, specialty skills, event requirements and premium service upgrades. Experienced DJs may qualify for higher-level assignments and additional opportunities. Paid training and Shadow/Assist opportunities are also available for DJs who need to learn the Okyne wedding and event process before receiving their own assignments.
