Job Description

Varsity Sports Now is seeking a skilled and experienced Freelance Livestream Director to provide live event production services for high school sporting events. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of video production techniques, a passion for sports, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. This is a freelance position with game-by-game compensation.
Responsibilities:
Live Event Production:
Direct and manage the video production for live sporting events, ensuring smooth operation and high-quality output Operate and maintain video/audio equipment, including cameras, laptops, live streaming hardware and audio equipment Make real-time decisions regarding camera angles, replays, graphics, and other production elements to create a dynamic and compelling viewing experience Troubleshoot technical issues that may arise during live events. Coordinate with announcers, camera operators, game officials, coaches, and other personnel to ensure seamless event coverage Pre-Event Preparation (as needed per event): Plan and prepare for upcoming game productions, including confirming crew (if applicable), setting up equipment, and ensuring all necessary resources are available Communicate with Live Stream Coordinator to test broadcast prior to start of event Communicate with the school/organization regarding event logistics and technical requirements Post-Event (as needed per event): Break down of production equipment at the end of the broadcast Upload replays and game recordings to designated locations
Equipment and Technical Skills:
Experience in using Hudl's Production Truck is a plus Production equipment to be provided Oversee the storage of equipment between events. Maintain proper inventory of provided equipment Proficient in operating the aforementioned equipment Understanding of video encoding, streaming, and distribution platforms (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch) is a plus Ability to troubleshoot and maintain technical equipment
Qualifications:
Proven experience in video production, specifically in live sports environments Strong understanding of sports broadcasting principles and techniques Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment Ability to oversee a crew of camera operators and announcers Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays to accommodate game schedules. Timeliness is required Passion for high school sports Must have their own reliable transportation to and from event locations
Freelance Terms:
This is a freelance position. Compensation will be on a per-game or per-event basis, with rates to be negotiated and agreed upon prior to each event. The contract will outline the scope of services, payment terms, and other relevant details.
