Job Description
Position Summary Benilde-St. Margaret's School (BSM) is seeking an enthusiastic, professional, and dependable Public Address Announcer to serve as the in-venue voice for home Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Football contests. The PA Announcer plays an important role in creating a welcoming, energetic, and professional game-day environment for student-athletes, coaches, officials, families, students, and visiting spectators. The successful candidate will communicate clearly and confidently while representing BSM and its Athletics & Activities Department with professionalism. This position requires strong preparation, attention to detail, appropriate enthusiasm, and the ability to follow established game-day scripts and procedures. Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as the public address announcer for assigned BSM Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Football home contests.
- Arrive sufficiently in advance of each event to review game-day scripts, rosters, pronunciations, special-event information, and other announcements.
- Deliver starting lineups, player introductions, scoring updates, substitutions, penalties, timeouts, and other sport-specific announcements as appropriate.
- Read approved BSM promotional, sponsorship, special-event, recognition, and community announcements.
- Deliver pregame announcements, including the national anthem introduction and applicable sportsmanship or MSHSL messaging.
- Maintain an appropriate balance of enthusiasm, professionalism, and neutrality throughout each contest.
- Pronounce student-athlete, coach, and school names accurately and make reasonable efforts to verify pronunciations prior to the event.
- Coordinate with Athletics & Activities staff, game officials, scoreboard operators, event supervisors, and other game-day personnel.
- Follow all scripts, protocols, and direction provided by the BSM Athletics & Activities Department.
- Remain attentive throughout the contest and respond appropriately to changes in game flow or event operations.
- Assist in creating a positive game-day atmosphere that reflects BSM's standards for sportsmanship, hospitality, and community.
- Maintain professionalism when interacting with student-athletes, coaches, officials, visiting schools, spectators, and BSM personnel.
Qualifications Required:
- Strong verbal communication skills and a clear, confident speaking voice.
- Ability to speak comfortably and professionally in front of large audiences.
- Dependability and punctuality.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow prepared scripts and instructions.
- Ability to remain composed and adaptable in a live-event environment.
- Understanding of basic football and volleyball terminology, rules, and game flow, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to represent Benilde-St.
Preferred:
- Previous public address, broadcasting, announcing, radio, theater, communications, or live-event experience.
- Familiarity with high school athletics and game-day operations.
- Working knowledge of football and volleyball rules and terminology.
- Position primarily covers home Varsity Football and Varsity Volleyball contests during the fall season.
- Evening availability is required, with occasional variations based on the competition schedule.
- Announcers should plan to arrive in advance of the scheduled contest to prepare with Athletics & Activities staff.
- Specific assignments will be coordinated by the BSM Athletics & Activities Department.
- Additional announcing opportunities for other BSM athletic contests may become available throughout the school year.
