Job Description

Hockey Equipment Manager Position Summary The Knoxville Ice Bears are seeking a reliable, organized, and hard-working Hockey Equipment Manager to support the day-to-day equipment needs of the team. This position is responsible for maintaining player equipment, preparing the locker room, assisting with game-day operations, managing team laundry, and ensuring all hockey operations equipment is ready for practices, games, road trips, and team events. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working in a fast-paced sports environment, and understands the importance of preparation behind the scenes. This role requires availability for home games, practices, and team-related events, including nights, weekends, and holidays during the hockey season. Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain the team locker room for practices, home games, and team events Manage player equipment, including skates, sticks, helmets, gloves, pads, jerseys, socks, and other hockey gear Assist with skate sharpening, equipment repairs, stick preparation, helmet adjustments, and general equipment maintenance Handle team laundry, including practice gear, towels, jerseys, socks, underlayers, and other team-issued items Set up benches, water bottles, towels, pucks, medical supplies, and other game-day/practice needs Assist with pregame, intermission, and postgame locker room responsibilities Pack, load, unload, and organize equipment for road games and team travel Maintain inventory of equipment, supplies, tape, laces, tools, laundry materials, and replacement parts Coordinate with coaches, athletic trainers, hockey operations staff, and players to support daily team needs Keep equipment areas, locker rooms, storage rooms, laundry areas, and workspaces clean and organized Assist with jersey preparation, nameplates, patches, sponsor elements, and game-worn item organization Support visiting team and officials' locker room needs when required Follow all team, arena, league, and safety protocols Qualifications Prior experience in hockey equipment management, locker room operations, team operations, or sports equipment support preferred Strong understanding of hockey equipment, locker room needs, and game-day preparation Ability to sharpen skates or willingness to learn Ability to complete basic equipment repairs and adjustments Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines Must be dependable, punctual, and professional Must be able to work Knoxville Ice Bears home games, practices, and team events as needed Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours during the hockey season Ability to lift, carry, push, and move heavy equipment bags, trunks, laundry loads, and team supplies Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work on your feet for extended periods Must be comfortable working around players, coaches, officials, arena staff, and visiting teams Preferred Skills Previous experience working with a hockey team at the junior, college, professional, or club level Experience sharpening skates and maintaining skate sharpening equipment Knowledge of hockey stick preparation, taping, cutting, and blade preferences Experience with jersey preparation, repairs, laundry, and inventory tracking Basic sewing, patching, or equipment repair skills Familiarity with professional locker room standards and game-day routines Ability to anticipate player and coaching staff needs before being asked Strong communication skills and ability to work well with hockey operations staff Experience loading and organizing team equipment for travel Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment, trunks, bags, and supplies Must be able to work on your feet for extended periods Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, carry, push, and pull equipment as needed Must be comfortable working in locker rooms, equipment rooms, laundry areas, benches, and arena spaces Must be able to work in a fast-paced game-day environment What You'll Gain Hands-on experience in professional hockey operations Experience working directly with players, coaches, athletic training staff, and team personnel A behind-the-scenes role in preparing a professional hockey team for practices and games Opportunity to develop equipment management, locker room operations, and game-day operations skills Experience working in a fast-paced professional sports environment Ideal Candidate Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented Takes pride in preparation, cleanliness, and consistency Comfortable working behind the scenes in a team-first role Has a strong work ethic and is willing to handle physical, hands-on tasks Communicates well with players, coaches, staff, and arena personnel Can stay calm and focused during busy game-day situations Understands that small details can make a major difference in team operations Passionate about hockey and supporting the success of the team Additional Notes This position requires availability during the hockey season for home games, practices, and team-related events.
