In a regional company of this size, this role wears multiple hats — hands-on fabrication alongside budget awareness and logistics for a two-city touring model. The ideal candidate is resourceful, adaptable, and comfortable managing props largely independently, with occasional support from freelance crew or volunteers during peak build periods. Duties Design, build, source, and maintain props across 4 productions per season — from small hand props to larger set pieces Interpret artistic vision into functional props alongside the Director of Production, choreographers, and guest designers Pack, transport, and set up/strike props for performances in both Dallas and Fort Worth Maintain an organized, portable prop inventory suited to a two-city touring schedule Coordinate with wardrobe and stage management on quick changes and scene transitions Supervise IATSE run crew for load-in/load-out and prop handling during performances Maintain vendor, hardware supplier, and rental relationships in both cities to minimize transport needs Attend tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances in both locations to manage the props run and troubleshoot on-site Track wear and repair needs between productions, refurbishing props as the season progresses What You Need 2-4+ years of experience in props for theater, dance, or another live performance field Solid fabrication skills: woodworking, painting, basic upholstery, light mechanical/rigging work Comfortable working independently and solving problems with limited resources Strong organizational skills Valid driver's license and willingness to regularly transport props between cities (may include driving a company vehicle or rental truck) Physical ability to lift, build, and move props; comfortable with power tools Budget management experience, ideally in a nonprofit or arts organization Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (document prep, data entry, spreadsheets, reports) Nice to have: Familiarity with ballet or dance-specific staging and repertoire Experience at a small or regional performing arts company where staff cover multiple roles Willingness to assist with light carpentry or scenic touch-ups during crunch periods Work Environment Travel between Dallas and Fort Worth is required for load-ins, tech week, and performances, with evening/weekend work concentrated around each production's run.
