This role involves producing original articles, fast-turnaround coverage, evergreen content, and maintaining team and competition hubs while applying SEO best practices and collaborating with multiple stakeholders. Responsibilities Write and publish approximately one original article per day, depending on assignment complexity and other editorial responsibilities Produce fast-turnaround coverage tied to matchups, results, schedules, standings, marquee events, and other timely sports moments Write evergreen and discovery content, including how-to-watch guides, competition and team explainers, previews, and viewing guides Build and maintain persistent team and competition hubs that stay current across a season Edit copy from other writers and update existing articles to keep information accurate and current Apply SEO best practices and partner with editorial, marketing, publicity, sports programming, and SEO stakeholders to secure approvals Qualifications Significant professional experience as a digital sports editor, writer, or journalist Deep knowledge of soccer and the NFL, with working familiarity across UFC, college football, and the broader sports landscape Excellent writing, editing, copy editing, and headline-writing skills Strong editorial judgment and the ability to quickly identify the most useful or compelling angle Demonstrated ability to produce clean, engaging, and accurate copy on tight deadlines, often around live events Experience editing other writers and providing clear, actionable feedback Working knowledge of SEO and how search intent should inform editorial decisions Experience with WordPress or a comparable CMS Fluency with Google Docs and collaborative editorial workflows Strong research and fact-checking skills Ability to navigate stakeholder feedback and approval processes while keeping work moving Highly organized and comfortable managing several priorities at once Preferred Qualifications Experience at a major sports publication, newsroom, or high-volume digital sports operation Experience covering soccer or the NFL at scale Experience developing strong headlines, subheads, and article structures for readers and search Experience writing recommendation, service, or search-driven evergreen content Familiarity with audience insights, search trends, and content-performance data
