The Writer will identify, research, and develop stories that highlight clinical advancements, research, patient experiences, staff achievements, and command initiatives while supporting broader public affairs and communication objectives. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field. Minimum five (5) years of professional journalism, writing, or public affairs experience, supported by a portfolio of published work. Demonstrated experience in interviewing, news writing, feature writing, and long-form storytelling. Advanced knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Style and journalistic writing standards. Experience in healthcare communications, military/public affairs, government, or a similar regulated environment. Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and safeguarding Protected Health Information (PHI), including during patient interviews. Experience managing editorial calendars, multiple assignments, and competing deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interview and communicate with patients, families, healthcare professionals, subject matter experts, and senior leaders. Key Responsibilities Research, write, rewrite, and edit news releases, feature stories, articles, speeches, briefings, web content, and other communication products in accordance with AP Style and established standards. Identify and develop timely story ideas, news angles, and content supporting WRNMMC and broader communication objectives. Conduct interviews with military and civilian staff, patients, families, visitors, leadership, and subject matter experts while protecting PHI and sensitive information. Manage assigned stories from concept through research, interviews, coordination, review, approval, and publication. Collaborate with photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and Public Affairs personnel to develop integrated multimedia content. Support media relations by responding to inquiries, coordinating interviews and media visits, and assisting with press conferences, briefings, and other public affairs activities. Develop internal and external messaging, including leadership communications and crisis communication materials, as required. Coordinate with subject matter experts and other Public Affairs offices to verify information and obtain required reviews and approvals. Support website, intranet, and social media content development and updates. Monitor relevant media coverage and prepare communication or activity reports as required. Submit communication products to designated Public Affairs leadership for review and approval prior to release. Meet established daily, weekly, and ad hoc deadlines in support of mission requirements. Salary commensurate with qualifications.
