Job Description

We are hiring a senior financial editor to own the roughly 100 articles a day on briefs.co and the daily Market Briefs newsletter, in office in downtown Detroit, at $95,000 to $110,000 plus profit share after year one. Heads up before you apply. This role takes two steps, applying here and sending us a short video. Details are at the bottom of this posting. It takes about five minutes and we promise, it's worth it. For most of history, serious investment research was for people who already had money. Briefs Finance is changing that. We built one of the top five financial podcasts in the world, then we built the research and tools that let a regular person understand an investment in minutes, and we were among the first companies anywhere to plug that research straight into ChatGPT and Claude. Our news site and newsletter are the front door to all of it, and you set the standard for every word. We think this is some of the most exciting work happening in Detroit, and you would be running the voice of it. Do you love the markets, love breaking news, and get a little obsessive about whether a story is actually good? We're hiring a full time Senior Financial Editor to own everything we publish in writing. The news site first, the newsletter second, and the voice across both. If your last job was filing three stories a week and waiting for an editor to tell you what to fix, this isn't that. Here, you are the editor. What you'll own The news site. Roughly 100 articles a day on stocks, the economy, the Fed, earnings, and crypto, live on briefs.co. Market Briefs. Our daily newsletter, in front of hundreds of thousands of investors every weekday at 7:30 am ET with the audio live, every link working, and nothing broken. Then make it better every week. A referral program, one experiment a week, and a reader score that moves from 8 out of 10 to 9.5. AI in the newsroom. You own how we use AI to research, draft, and check the work, and you keep pushing that further every month. We don't believe in AI slop, but we do believe in using the tools we have to make good things more efficient. Voice. You are the final word on how Briefs sounds, on the site, in the newsletter, and on the voice pass for Briefs Pro reports and advertorials. We read like a story, not like a filing. Plain English, credible, easy to scroll. If it sounds like a bot wrote it, it doesn't ship. The big story. When one article takes off, you are already publishing the follow-ups before anyone asks. Capitalizing on a spike is the job, not a bonus. Sponsor copy. Market Briefs is sponsor supported. You write and quality check sponsor ad copy with our partnerships team so it fits the newsletter and readers always know what is an ad. Ad click-through is a number you'll see every week. Newsletter operations. Send times, deliverability, list health, unsubscribe rate, and the email platform migration we are in the middle of. If a reader replies to the newsletter and gets a bounce, you are the one who notices. Leads. Everything we publish exists to earn readers and turn readers into leads. Traffic first, leads follow. You own how lead capture is positioned in articles and in the newsletter, and you will be measured on leads from both every month. Who you are You don't need to be a financial expert. You do need to know the markets well enough to catch a bad take before it publishes, and a background in finance is a real advantage. If you are not familiar with basic financial concepts like inflation, this is not the role for you. You have run a daily publication. 3+ years writing or editing financial news, including at least one stretch where you were responsible for something going out on a schedule every single day. You use AI every day and you are honest about what it is good at. Claude, GPT, whatever gets the job done. You can build a repeatable workflow, not just type a prompt. And you can spot AI-sounding prose from across the room, because our readers can. You are fast and you are careful, both at once. Volume does not scare you and it does not make you sloppy. You write things down. Deadlines, commitments, what you learned when something broke. You raise capacity problems before they become missed deadlines, with specifics. You own your asset. Nobody has to tell you the site should be good. When a story blows up, you are already on the follow-up before anyone asks. When something is not working, you say so and then fix it anyway. You are obsessive in the good way. The kind of editor who reads five other outlets every morning and wants to know exactly why yours is better or worse. Nice to have, but not required: A Series 65 or similar credential (we will sponsor it), published bylines at a major finance outlet, and experience with Customer.io or a similar email platform, GA4, Ahrefs, or HubSpot. Your first 90 days Week one and two: You hand-write one Market Briefs article a day until ten are written. Everyone who has ever written for us has done it, including our CEO. It is the fastest way to learn the voice. Day 30: The site hits its three daily content checkpoints, and you are shipping Market Briefs on your own. Day 60: You have honest baselines for corrections, reader score, and leads from both the site and the newsletter, and you have shipped one improvement to the accuracy filter. Day 90: You have answered the question nobody here has answered yet. Do leads scale with article volume the way views do? One experiment a week is a habit, the referral program is live, and everything still ships when you are out sick. You will report to our Head of Operations and work closely with our CEO, who reads Market Briefs every morning and will tell you exactly what he thinks. We are a small content team, three people at most. You set the editorial priorities for our Financial Writer, but this is a hands-on seat and not a management job. You will be writing and editing every day. Where and when This is an in-person role in our office in the heart of Detroit's business district. We promise

•it's worth it. We are flexible when life happens, the AC goes out or the kid is home sick, but if you are looking for a remote or hybrid job, this isn't it. Monday through Friday. The newsletter goes out at 7:30 am ET and the market opens at 9:30, so the day starts early, and market news does not always end at 5. We are a startup That means there are certain characteristics you should be aware of prior to applying. Some of the biggest benefits of working for a startup include: Being an early member of a fast growing team Seeing the impact of your work Opportunity for greater financial growth But working for a startup is not easy. Some of the requirements of working for a startup include: Working long hours Enduring company pivots Making personal sacrifices when needed Three things we expect from everybody here. Lead by example, because we teach people about money and we expect our own team to live that way. Care about the work, because if you are looking for a job rather than something you want to be good at, this will not be a fit. And take risks, because you will be asked to try things nobody here has tried yet. About Briefs Finance We are on a mission to help 1.3 billion people be better with money. We do it through a top-five financial podcast, a free daily newsletter called Market Briefs, a paid research and education platform called Briefs Pro, and AI-powered stock research tools.

//www.briefs.co and on our social media pages. How much will I get paid? We pay at the top of the market on purpose, because we want the person who takes this seat to stay in it. Salary is $95,000 to $110,000 depending on experience, and we expect to hire near the top of that range. Then there is the profit share. Most of our team is invited into the company profit share after their first year. It is not guaranteed and it moves with how the company does, but it has typically paid somewhere between $5,000 and $10,000 a quarter, and there is no ceiling on it. How to apply Two things. Apply here, and send us a video. One without the other doesn't move forward, and that isn't us being difficult, it's the whole point. Here's why. We get far more applications than we can interview and on paper most of them look the same. Same clips, same cover letter, same claims. Three minutes of you talking tells us more than a resume does. Most people skip this step because it feels like a hassle, which is exactly why it's worth your time to make the intro video. We watch every single one. What we need from you Record a video, three minutes or less. Tell us why you'd be good at this job, and one thing you'd change about briefs.co or Market Briefs after spending a little time with both. You don't have to be right about the change. We want to hear how you think. Put it anywhere we can watch it. Google Drive, Dropbox, or an unlisted YouTube link all work. Check that the link opens before you send it. Email the link to hello@briefs.co with the subject line Senior Financial Editor

•Video Submission, and include links to three pieces you wrote or edited. Your phone camera is fine. So is your kitchen, one take, and whatever you're wearing right now. We are not judging the video, we're listening to you. Figure twenty minutes start to finish, including the time you spend looking around the site.
