Job Description

The Livingston County News is seeking an associate editor to join our team at an award-winning weekly newspaper based in Geneseo, N.Y. This editor will help cover local news, including regular reporting, and coordinate coverage of the GLOW region with The Daily News of Batavia. Who we are The LCN , as it's known, is a weekly print publication that also produces news daily at thelcn.com. The LCN works closely with staff at The Daily News in nearby Batavia to provide the most complete coverage of Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming counties, known collectively as The GLOW region. This is a picturesque and growing region of Western New York state between Rochester and Buffalo, and the western Finger Lakes. What you will do Our associate editor will partner with the regional editor to guide coverage of news, opinion and feature content for The Livingston County News . The essential job functions of the associate editor include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with the regional editor to plan content for each week's issue of The LCN .
  • Regularly report news and feature stories.
  • Work with the editors and reporters to develop and execute story ideas that are essential or unique to our communities and make The LCN indispensable to those communities.
  • Assist with editing.
  • Assist with laying out each week's print edition of The LCN .
  • Assist in posting content to thelcn.com to maintain an active and engaging website.
  • Backup other editors when they are on paid time off or otherwise unavailable.
  • The associate editor is required to work in the office at least three days a week.
Some weekend assignments will be required. Who we are looking for Curiosity and creativity are a requirement. Writing, editing and management experience are essential for success in this role. Page layout and experience in the digital media realm is a plus. The successful candidate will be deadline-oriented, show attention to detail, and demonstrate strong organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple assignments and deadlines. The work demands accuracy, while working quickly and efficiently to meet deadlines. A strong candidate will have a desire to learn new skills and tasks and work collaboratively with co-workers to produce the best journalism they can offer. What you need
  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, communications or related experience.
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills, with some experience editing stories, working with other writers and competency using AP Style.
Salary:
$18-20/hour depending on several factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer our full-time staff benefits to include medical, dental, 401K, PTO, and flexibility with schedules. Reliable attendance and punctuality are required. The employee is also expected to perform other duties and functions as needed from time to time.
