The News Editor is responsible for collaborating with the editor-in-chief of The Daily Barometer to coordinate and produce campus-related content for the publication and various online platforms including dailybarometer. Students in this role will develop these essential skills for future employment:munication, critical thinking, professionalism.

Summer start: June 12, 2026 to Sept. 8, 2026 Academic start: Sept. 8, 2026 to June 15, 2027

Pay Rate:

Communication, Critical Thinking, Professionalism Position Duties Responsibilities:

Responsible for curating, pitching, editing, assigning and reporting for The Daily Barometer, both in and online, in a timely manner (stories will include investigations, cover stories, hard and breaking news, and feature stories relevant to both the university and city of Corvallis) Ensure that all students who submit articles, photos, podcasts, and video receive coaching and feedback prior to publishing, so they can learn and improve ensure all deadlines are met as assigned Plan and hold weekly cohort meetings to assign tasks and oversee other activity as needed Assist inpleting editions by deadline Be available for flexible hours, including nights, weekends and academic breaks Establish and maintain relationships with prominent City of Corvallis and OSU figures, including but not limited to OSU administration, heads of colleges and OSU resource offices, the mayor, city councilors, the police and fire chiefs, themunity development director, the city manager, business owners and the parks and recreation director Post daily to The Daily Barometer social media accounts, under the direction of the EIC and Marketing Assist the EIC in hiring, supervising and managing a team Act in a professional manner at all times Other duties as assigned Communication Respond to emails, messages, team chats and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN Ensure you are using, checking and responding to project management platform (Basecamp, Discord, etc.) Work 20 regular in-office hours each week for Orange Media Network, at least half of these hours should be during regular business hours (8 a.m.•5 p.m., Monday•Friday).
