Managing Editor Local News Startup

We are launching a new local newspaper focused on delivering consistent, high-quality reporting in Richmond Hill, GA. This startup is backed by an established and profitable digital media company , providing long-term stability and resources from day one. Role Overview We are seeking a Managing Editor to lead daily newsroom operations, maintain editorial standards, and actively produce written content. This is a hands-on, high-output role . You will be writing daily, managing a small team of reporters, and ensuring a steady flow of accurate, timely local news. This is not a passive editing position. Responsibilities Edit and publish daily articles for accuracy, clarity, and legal safety Manage and coordinate reporters (assignments, deadlines, coverage) Write and publish multiple articles per day (follow-ups, community stories, additional coverage) Identify and assign follow-up stories from court cases, meetings, and breaking news Turn notes, discussions, and raw information into clean, publishable articles Ensure consistent publishing cadence (daily output is critical) Review and approve all content before publication Maintain clear communication with reporters to ensure complete coverage Lead regular team meetings to review coverage, set priorities, and align on daily reporting goals What We're Looking For Strong writing and editing skills Ability to work quickly and produce multiple articles per day High attention to detail and accuracy Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment Self-directed and highly organized Based in or in close proximity with Richmond Hill, GA Preferred (Not Required) Experience in journalism, media, or publishing Familiarity with local government or court systems Experience managing writers or contributors What Makes This Role Different Backed by a profitable media company (not a fragile startup) Competitive salary for the local market Opportunity to help build a newsroom from the ground up We are building a serious local news operation and looking for someone who wants to be part of it long-term.
