About the Role Roadmap Advisors is a middle-market M&A advisory firm looking for an experienced business writer and editor to help us produce thoughtful, useful content about M&A, private equity, entrepreneurship, finance, and the industries we serve. This is not a high-volume content marketing role. We are looking for someone with strong editorial judgment: a person who can take an idea, interview transcript, research file, rough draft, or AI-generated starting point and determine what is actually worth saying, what is missing, what needs evidence, and how to make the finished product significantly better. You will work directly with firm leadership to turn our experience, opinions, research, and conversations with business owners into articles, reports, LinkedIn content, newsletters, and other publications. We care much more about the quality and originality of the finished work than the number of pieces produced. What You'll Do Write and Edit Turn interviews, transcripts, notes, research, and rough ideas into clear, engaging business writing Substantively edit existing drafts for argument, structure, clarity, accuracy, tone, and usefulness Recognize when a piece is technically correct but still boring, generic, repetitive, poorly supported, or missing a real point of view Help develop the voice of Roadmap and its senior professionals rather than imposing a generic corporate writing style Translate complex M&A, financial, and industry concepts into language that sophisticated business owners can understand without oversimplifying them Research and Challenge Research unfamiliar industries and business topics quickly and intelligently Identify credible sources, statistics, examples, transactions, and anecdotes that strengthen an argument Fact-check claims and question unsupported assumptions Recognize when additional research is insufficient and the right next step is to interview someone who knows the subject Push back when an argument is weak or a topic is not worth publishing Develop Ideas Identify interesting questions, timely developments, and underexplored topics where Roadmap can contribute a useful perspective Work with firm leadership to turn transaction experience and recurring client conversations into original content Repurpose strong long-form ideas into LinkedIn posts, newsletters, and other formats without simply summarizing the original article Use AI Well We are enthusiastic adopters of AI. We use AI to accelerate research, explore ideas, interrogate arguments, analyze information, develop outlines, improve workflows, and get to better answers faster. We do not want someone who simply prompts an AI model to write an article and lightly edits the result. The explosion of generic AI-generated content makes editorial judgment, original thinking, credible research, and authentic voice more valuable, not less. You should be excited about experimenting with new AI tools while also being highly sensitive to unsupported claims, generic prose, false confidence, repetition, and what we refer to internally as AI slop . Who We're Looking For The right person is likely an experienced writer or editor who is intellectually curious, skeptical in a productive way, and comfortable working directly with senior professionals.

You should have:

Exceptional writing and substantive editing ability Strong editorial judgment and a clear instinct for what makes business writing interesting and useful Experience writing, editing, researching, journalism, executive communications, thought leadership, or related work The ability to learn unfamiliar business subjects quickly Strong research and source-evaluation skills Excellent attention to detail and factual accuracy Comfort questioning assumptions and respectfully challenging senior colleagues The ability to work independently from incomplete or imperfect instructions Strong organizational skills and reliability Genuine interest in business, entrepreneurship, finance, investing, economics, or related subjects Fluency with modern AI tools, or a strong desire to become highly proficient with them Comfort receiving direct feedback and substantially revising your own work Experience with M&A or investment banking is helpful but not required . We would rather hire an exceptional editor who is curious about business than a finance expert who is only an average writer.
