Position:
The Visuals Editor leads photography and videography for the CPR newsroom, helping shape engaging visual journalism for daily news coverage, multimedia stories, social media and special projects. This is a hands-on role where you'll assign and edit the work of a staff photographer and freelance visual journalists while also pursuing assignments of your own. You'll also work in tandem with our Digital Team to brainstorm social video posts and contribute strategy to how we present our work on social media, as well as static graphics for use on digital stories. You'll work in the field, edit and publish visual content, create illustrations and data visualizations, and oversee CPR's photo library and archive. You'll also coach and develop a staff photographer and provide editorial direction to freelance contributors. The new hire is expected to reside in the greater Denver metro area upon starting- this is not a remote position. However, a hybrid schedule is available that requires a minimum of 3 days in the office each week (Tues

About You:
You're an organized and collaborative leader who is energized by opportunities to help a newsroom expand how it uses photography, video, graphics, and other visual elements. Clear communication and relationship-building are central to your approach, allowing you to build trust and bring others along in your vision for visual storytelling. You're comfortable setting clear, measurable goals and providing thoughtful feedback, while coaching and developing photographers to strengthen their skills and creative judgment. A strong attention to detail and accuracy guides your work, while flexibility allows you to adapt as news evolves and new ways of presenting stories emerge.Minimum Qualifications:
At least 5 years of photojournalism experience, including experience covering news, developing rapport with sources, independently exercising strong news judgment, writing compelling cutlines, and editing visual content for publication in a content management system. Experience managing, coaching, and developing others, including experience identifying and maintaining relationships with freelance photographers. Strong editorial judgment and a thorough understanding of journalistic ethics. Experience working in digital news environments and adapting visual storytelling for emerging platforms and formats. Experience producing or editing video and creating data visualizations or other visual storytelling formats.Education Equivalency:
A fully relatable bachelor's or master's degree may replace some (not all) of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.
