Job Description

WRITER, EDITOR WRITER, EDITOR

Marketing

• Brand & Content Full-Time

• Loris, South Carolina (on-site) Looking for a job? Look elsewhere. Looking for a craft — at a place where your range, your ear, and your standards actually matter? Read on. We're Laudisi — the people behind Smokingpipes.com, Peterson of Dublin, Cornell & Diehl, Caldwell Cigars, Low Country Pipe & Cigar, and a handful of other brands you've probably never heard of (but our customers are obsessed with). Each one has its own history, its own voice, and its own audience — a 160-year-old Dublin pipe factory doesn't sound like a small-batch American tobacco blender, and neither of them sounds like a cigar brand. Getting that right, across every brand, in every channel, is the job. We're not a content mill. We're not churning out SEO filler or corporate speak. We write for enthusiasts who notice when a sentence lands wrong, who remember details, and who can tell the difference between good writing and exceptional prose. Your role? You're the voice of our brands — the person who decides how we sound, everywhere our customers find us.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO

Write newsletter, social, and long-form blog content across our brands — and make each one sound like itself, not like the same writer wearing different hats. That's the standard. Fast, clean, and unmistakably ours. You'll also: Write long-form editorial — the deep dives into pipes, tobacco, cigars, history, and the culture around them that give our audience a reason to keep reading Edit transcriptions into clean, readable pieces — turning interviews, podcasts, and video into writing that stands on its own Write product and brand copy — packaging, labels, campaign copy, brand statements, and the hundred smaller things that carry a brand's voice Take on the rest of the copywriting load — whatever the brand needs said that week, from a landing page to a trade-show handout to a line of copy nobody else can get right Edit other people's work — yours and everyone else's — with a clear eye and a light enough hand that the writer still recognizes it Brainstorm and contribute ideas — not just execute someone else's vision, but help shape what we say and how we say it Juggle multiple projects simultaneously — because we move fast, deadlines are real, and sometimes you'll get an assignment with very little notice Collaborate across teams — with Marketing, Merchandising, Manufacturing, Customer Service, and leadership, to understand what needs to be said and why Research and synthesize — dig into topics you don't know yet and make connections that weren't obvious before

YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF

You're not just a writer. You're someone who thinks deeply about language, who knows the difference between clarity and cleverness, and who can explain why one sentence works better than another — then turn around and do the less glamorous work of cleaning up someone else's draft without losing what made it theirs. You sweat the details because sloppy writing bothers you. When a sentence isn't working, it nags at you until you fix it. When your own drafts come back marked up, you don't take it personally — you see it as part of making the work better. You're fast and good. Not one or the other. You can turn things around quickly without cutting corners, because speed and quality aren't at odds when you know what you're doing. This role is in the building, on purpose. Our brands live here — the pipes, the tobacco, the people who make them, the conversations in the hallway that become next month's newsletter. You'll have support and a team behind you, but we need someone on-site who can pick things up fast, ask good questions of the people around them, and become the person the whole company brings its writing to. If you want to learn this industry from the inside and actually be part of a culture rather than a call on a calendar, this is the seat. You're curious. Whether it's pipes, cigars, coffee, watches, food, spirits, or any other "deep hobby" world where the minutiae matter — you get it. You understand why people care about the details, and you respect that. If you're already one of our customers, even better: it's a lot easier to write for enthusiasts when you are one. This is a landing pad, not a parking lot. Writers who excel here don't stay stuck; they take on bigger creative challenges, own larger projects, and shape how we communicate as a company.

YOU CAN EXPECT

Compensation and benefits: $62,000 per year, plus health, dental, and vision insurance; six paid holidays; generous PTO; 401(k) with 1:1 match up to 4% and no vesting period.

Perks:

casual dress (jeans and t-shirts), tuition reimbursement, referral bonuses, year-end bonuses, fresh fruit daily, paid luncheons, and regular company events.

Growth:

real opportunities to take on more responsibility as you master the work, improve processes, and show you can own outcomes — not just tasks.

Culture:

a passionate group of "Laudisians" who like the products, like the customers, and like working with other people who actually care.

Reality check:

we work around tobacco and smoke; many of us are enthusiasts. You'll often be in smoking areas, so you'll need to be comfortable with that.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Prior pipe and cigar knowledge isn't required — we'll teach you. A strong portfolio beats a long resume. What we're really looking for is: A proven background in writing and a genuine love for the craft Range — you can write a 2,000-word feature, a newsletter, and a line of package copy, and know that they're different animals Real editing chops — you can take a rough transcript or a first draft and make it publishable without flattening the voice Exceptional command of standard American English — grammar, spelling, phrasing, and style A willingness to research deeply and write knowledgeably about subjects you're still actively learning The ability to meet deadlines consistently, work autonomously, and stay organized under pressure Comfort writing for social and email as well as long-form — and an understanding of how the channel changes the sentence Experience with sales- or call-to-action-oriented copy is a plus Genuine interest in what we make and sell — enthusiasts and current customers are especially encouraged to apply On-site availability in the Loris / Grand Strand area, proficiency in a Windows- and Google-based environment, a valid driver's license, and the ability to pass a criminal background check

THE BOTTOM LINE

This job isn't for everyone. It's for writers who treat language like a craft, who get frustrated when content is generic or sloppy, and who want to work on brands that people actually care about. If you're reading this and thinking, "finally, a place that gets it" — apply below. If you're reading this and thinking, "wow, they sound intense" — we probably are. And that's fine. There are plenty of other jobs out there. But if you want to be part of something where your words matter, where quality isn't negotiable, and where showing up means actually showing up? We're building something here. Come help us tell the story.
