As a Junior Apparel Technical Designer, you'll play an important role in supporting the pre-production team by helping ensure garments meet quality, fit, and construction standards before moving into production. Junior Apparel Technical Designer - Education Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Fashion Merchandising, Product Development, or a related field preferred. Equivalent apparel industry experience may be considered in place of formal education. Junior Apparel Technical Designer - Skills + Experience Requirements 2-3 years of experience in apparel technical design, product development, garment technology, or a related field. Knowledge of apparel fit, garment measurements, construction techniques, and manufacturing processes. Experience reviewing samples and providing technical feedback. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience maintaining detailed technical documentation. Ability to read, understand, and create garment specifications and technical packs. Understanding of standard apparel grading rules and construction terminology. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communication with overseas vendors. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and communicate product issues. Junior Apparel Technical Designer - Job Duties + Responsibilities Support the Pre-Production Department with apparel development activities from sample review through production readiness. Measure garments and compare samples against established specifications to ensure accuracy and consistency. Review factory samples for fit, construction, measurements, and overall quality; provide detailed comments and recommendations. Create, update, and maintain garment specification sheets, measurement charts, and technical documentation. Update technical packs (Tech Packs) in Excel, including specifications, construction callouts, and grading details. Communicate with overseas factories regarding sample revisions, product specifications, and development timelines. Maintain accurate tracking reports to monitor sample status, approvals, and production milestones. Assist with maintaining organized PP (Pre-Production) and TOP (Top of Production) sample rooms. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure product details and requirements are accurately communicated. Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced apparel manufacturing environment. Maintain a high level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail throughout the product development process. Junior Apparel Technical Designer - Physical Capabilities Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods of time. Ability to review, measure, and handle apparel samples and materials. Ability to move throughout the pre-production and sample areas as needed. Ability to lift and carry garments, sample materials, and related items weighing up to approximately 15-20 pounds. Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving measuring, reviewing, and documenting garment specifications.
