Sharon, MA The Technical Designer at Habitat Clothes to Live in is responsible for upholding the brand's strands for fit, quality, aesthetic integrity, and construction across all products. This role partners closely with the Design Director and broader Design team to refine and evolve development processes in alignment with the company's growth and production model. The Technical Designer actively participates in weekly design and fit meetings, and serves as a key liaison with overseas partners, providing clear communication on sample development, fit, evaluation, and technical feedback.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the design team to obtain clear direction and consensus on design aesthetic, fit, and construction. Develop specifications and garment construction methods for assigned product categories from initial style development and work with team to cost engineer for bulk production. Create and maintain detailed tech packs (measurements, construction, BOMs, grading, callouts) Lead fit sessions on live models or forms with Design and Product Management; take notes and communicate corrections clearly to overseas partners Problem-solve all technical issues related to fit and execution including fabric application, construction, and grading. Effectively communicate fit revisions to vendors using notes, pattern corrections, or photos. Evaluate prototype samples for fit, construction, and quality. Maintain organized records of specs, revisions, and approvals Ensure Brand consistency in aesthetic, fit and construction from vendor to vendor across all styles within a category. Work together with Product Management on timing, tracking, and schedule. Communicate issues when necessary and provide analysis, fact finding and possible solutions. Track workload deliverables to ensure individual deadlines are met and work with production partners to avoid any garment delivery slides. Attend weekly meetings to provide technical support updates.
Qualifications:
3-6+ years of experience in technical design for women's apparel Ability to analyze fit issues and propose valid and actionable solutions. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator (for tech packs) Strong understanding of garment construction, patternmaking, and grading Understanding of end-to-end product development and apparel production process from concept to delivery. Ability to read and evaluate patterns and construction details Knowledge of fabric and inner components Experience working with small brands or limited production runs is a plus Adept to time management with the ability to set priorities, plan and meet overlapping deadlines. Excellent communication skills for working with designers and vendors. Competent analytical skills and ability to problem solve. Highly organized with strong attention to detail Knowledge of excel, illustrator, and patternmaking.
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
