Job Description

Design Assistant Berkshire Blanket and Home Co. is looking for a new member for our Technical Design Team. We are the largest designer and importer of blankets, throws, and soft home décor in the U.S., and we are in search of someone to continue growing with us! Our new Design Assistant will enjoy working independently, while actively helping those around them. They will have a true appreciation for learning, attention to detail, organization and upholding standards. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel & Outlook) is a must.
Responsibilities include:
Independently reviewing Strike-offs and yardage for pattern/color/technique Working with internal team members and communicating directly with customers/buyers Working with Account Managers, Designers & International team members as necessary to correct/revise sample colors/patterns Communicating clearly with our teams in China and occasionally India, regarding revised sample requests based on comments/approvals Requesting yardage from factories Reviewing, establishing and maintaining existing color and pattern standards for production Maintaining and reviewing processes with customer teams and management Assisting with creation of presentation boards and/or PDFs for meetings Cutting and surging swatches for customer submission and standard library records. Creating Color, Pattern and fabrication standard records and maintaining library Creating, labeling and maintaining standard color chips for customer presentations Maintaining shared tracking and request spreadsheets of yardage Work directly with the Product Development team and customer/brand Account Managers on needed samples/finished swatches Support additional sample projects and initiatives as needed Requirements for
Success:
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite • Strong ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Following written and sketch requests Work independently to complete tasks and daily duties Understand and take action on tasks based on priority Effectively collaborate with internal team members including Design, Product Development & Account Management Ability to operate and manage home sewing machines: Single-needle, Overlock/ Serge Stitch, Coverstitch, etc. Ability to sit or stand for periods of time with continuous movements of hands, arms & fingers while sewing Respectfully and clearly communicate directly with overseas vendor(s)
