Job Description
Overview NJ based childrenswear apparel company is looking for a full-time Technical Designer that can combine creative design skills with technical expertise to ensure children's apparel is produced to the highest quality standards. The position will work closely with design, production, and compliance teams to translate fashion concepts into manufacturable garments. Core Responsibilities Develop and maintain fit and construction standards for children's sportswear, layette, swimwear, outerwear, and dresses, ensuring brand consistency and quality. Create technical specification packages for each style, including correct grade rules, non-standard construction details, and accurate measurements. Measure and evaluate development and prototype samples for fit, quality, and workmanship, providing feedback to design and production teams. Lead fit sessions with design and production departments, making adjustments to patterns or designs as needed. Communicate technical details (fit, specs, patterns, construction) to vendors, suppliers, and production teams, often using diagrams, patterns, or written instructions. Ensure compliance with children's safety regulations by working with production and compliance departments Respond to fit, spec, and construction inquiries via email. Collaborate with design teams to understand concepts and translate them into technical specifications Review sample garments for fit, look, and feel, and provide feedback to improve the final product Required Skills & Experience Minimum 5 years of relevant apparel or children's wear experience. Strong knowledge of knit and woven garment construction and patternmaking Understanding of sewing terminology and the garment manufacturing process Proficiency in Excel, MS Word, and ideally Illustrator for creating technical drawings Immediate Start date, NJ local or have reliable transportation
