Floral Assistant & Shop Associate — Part-Time Surcee Bouquets | Downtown Asheville, NC Job Overview Surcee Bouquets is a new luxury floral boutique opening in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, with a simple philosophy: elevating the art of gifting flowers. We are looking for a Part-Time Floral Assistant & Shop Associate with previous retail flower shop experience to join our team. This is a hands-on support role for someone who understands the day-to-day workings of a retail flower shop and enjoys being involved in all aspects of the business. Flower processing, assisting the Lead Floral Designer, customer service, shop support, and local deliveries will make up the majority of this position initially. The right candidate should also have basic floral design skills and will have opportunities to create petite arrangements and hand-tied bouquets. As experience with Surcee's design style and standards grows, so will the opportunity to take on more floral design responsibility. This position has the potential to grow into a full-time floral design role for the right person. Open Monday through Friday, Surcee focuses on everyday floral gifting rather than weddings and off-premise events. We are building a small, collaborative team where everyone pitches in and no task is considered "someone else's job." Duties Process, clean, hydrate, and properly store incoming flowers Assist the Lead Floral Designer with daily floral production Maintain flower quality, freshness, and cooler organization Prep flowers and materials for daily design work Create petite arrangements and hand-tied bouquets as assigned Learn and follow Surcee's established design style, recipes, and quality standards Prepare, wrap, and package orders for delivery and customer pickup Make local floral deliveries while representing Surcee professionally Assist customers with floral selections and purchases Provide exceptional, attentive customer service Answer phones and assist with customer orders Receive, unpack, organize, and stock floral and shop merchandise Keep buckets, tools, coolers, work areas, and the shop clean and organized Assist with merchandising and maintaining the overall appearance of the shop Help with cards, wrapping, packaging, and finishing details Assist with inventory and communicate product and supply needs Pitch in wherever needed during busy days and floral holidays Requirements 1-2 years of professional retail flower shop experience required Experience processing and caring for fresh-cut flowers Basic floral design experience, including vase arrangements and hand-tied bouquets Floral design portfolio or examples of previous work required Understanding of the daily workflow and pace of a retail flower shop Exceptional customer service and communication skills Warm, positive, and professional demeanor Reliable, punctual, and dependable Organized and detail-oriented Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team Problem solver who takes initiative and is eager to help Comfortable moving between many different responsibilities throughout the day Willing to perform all aspects of shop work, including cleaning, flower processing, stocking, and deliveries Able and willing to follow established floral recipes, design standards, and brand guidelines Strong sense of presentation appropriate for a high-end luxury brand Professional references required Delivery Requirements Local floral delivery is an important part of this position. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required Comfortable driving and making deliveries throughout the Asheville area Able to safely handle and transport floral arrangements Friendly and professional when interacting with delivery recipients Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position. Applicants should be comfortable standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying flower buckets and arrangements, bending, unpacking shipments, cleaning, and performing the everyday physical tasks of a flower shop. Schedule Part-time to start Weekday schedule — Surcee is open Monday through Friday Additional hours may be available as the business grows and during busy floral holidays Potential to grow into a full-time position for the right person Opportunity for Growth We hope this position will grow along with Surcee. For someone who demonstrates strong floral skills, reliability, initiative, exceptional customer service, and an understanding of the Surcee aesthetic, there will be opportunities for increased design responsibility and the potential to grow into a full-time floral design position. About Surcee Surcee is founded by longtime floral industry entrepreneur Clara Varga-Gonzales , founder and previous owner of the award-winning Tiger Lily Florist in Charleston, South Carolina, which became recognized throughout the floral industry. After years of working in floral business education and consulting, Surcee represents a return to retail floristry with a fresh vision centered on exceptional flowers, thoughtful gifting, and extraordinary customer service.
