We are willing to train the right person! This is a great opportunity for someone interested in graphic design, newspaper production and publishing who wants to gain hands-on professional experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Design advertisements for local businesses Create and revise ads based on customer requests Lay out newspaper pages with stories, photos, headlines and advertising Prepare ads and completed pages for print Make corrections and last-minute changes before press deadlines Work closely with our advertising, editorial and production teams Our production department publishes the Mountain Democrat twice a week , the Georgetown Gazette weekly , and our El Dorado Hills publication bi-monthly , along with special publications throughout the year.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Basic graphic design and computer skills Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat preferred Good eye for layout, typography and photo placement Attention to detail and good spelling Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines Dependable, positive and willing to learn Previous newspaper experience is not required. Students, recent graduates and those looking to begin a career in graphic design or publishing are encouraged to apply. Part-time to start, with the possibility of becoming full-time . Hours are flexible, although availability around newspaper production deadlines is important. Please submit a résumé and, if available, samples of your design work or a portfolio. No professional portfolio yet? That's okay! School projects, personal designs or other creative work are welcome. We're interested in finding someone with creativity, potential and a willingness to learn.
