This position is ideal for someone who understands that great design is only part of the job. The right candidate knows how to take artwork from concept or customer-supplied file through prepress and into production accurately, efficiently, and with attention to detail . You should be comfortable identifying file problems before they become production problems and communicating clearly with customers and team members when artwork needs to be corrected. Key Responsibilities Review incoming customer artwork for print and production readiness. Prepare and correct files for small-format, large-format, and grand-format printing. Set up files with proper bleed, trim, safe areas, dimensions, and resolution. Identify and correct low-resolution or improperly formatted customer artwork. Convert, recreate, or vectorize customer logos and graphics when appropriate. Prepare artwork using proper CMYK, Pantone/PMS, spot-color, and color-management practices. Resize and color-correct raster images using Adobe Photoshop while maintaining proper resolution and embedded color profiles. Create and modify vector artwork, logos, paths, and production graphics in Adobe Illustrator. Create and manage multi-page layouts in Adobe InDesign when required. Outline or embed fonts and verify that all linked graphics and assets are properly included. Preflight PDFs and production files using Adobe Acrobat before sending jobs to print. Inspect files for common production issues including missing bleed, incorrect color mode, low-resolution images, missing fonts, incorrect dimensions, and artwork positioned outside safe areas. Prepare press-ready PDF, AI, EPS, and other appropriate production files. Maintain artwork proportions and proper scaling when resizing files. Work with production staff to ensure artwork is appropriate for the printing, finishing, cutting, mounting, or installation process being used. Communicate with customers when submitted artwork does not meet production requirements and clearly explain available solutions. Request vector artwork, higher-resolution files, fonts, logos, or other assets when needed. Help prevent unnecessary reprints by identifying potential problems before a job enters production. Maintain organized and consistently named production files. Required Technical Knowledge Candidates should have working knowledge of: Adobe Illustrator Adobe Photoshop Adobe InDesign Adobe Acrobat and PDF preflighting Vector versus raster graphics CMYK versus RGB color Pantone/PMS and spot colors Image resolution, DPI and PPI Bleed, trim and safe-area requirements Font outlining and embedding Press-ready PDF preparation Image resizing and resampling Color profiles and color-managed workflows Logo recreation and vectorization Large-format and small-format print preparation Familiarity with RIP software such as Onyx, Caldera, Flexi, or similar production software is a plus. What We Are Looking For The strongest candidate will be someone who can look at a customer-supplied file and quickly determine: Is the artwork actually usable? Is the resolution appropriate for the final printed size? Is the file built in the correct color space? Does it have the proper bleed and safe area? Are fonts and linked images properly handled? Should an image be corrected in Photoshop rather than Illustrator? Will the artwork scale correctly without becoming blurry or distorted? Will the file reproduce correctly once it reaches the printer? Does the customer need to provide better artwork? Can the file be corrected internally without compromising quality? We are looking for someone who catches problems before they reach production rather than after something has already been printed. Ideal Candidate You may be a strong fit if you: Have hands-on experience preparing artwork for commercial print, signage, or large-format graphics. Understand the difference between designing artwork and preparing artwork for production. Are comfortable working with both customer-created files and professionally designed artwork. Can troubleshoot artwork independently. Have strong attention to detail. Can manage multiple jobs and priorities in a production environment. Communicate clearly when artwork does not meet production specifications. Take pride in producing accurate, clean, professional work. Are willing to collaborate closely with production, sales, and customer-service team members. Understand that quality control begins before the Print button is pressed. Examples of Situations You Should Be Comfortable Handling Low-resolution artwork: A customer sends a 72-DPI JPG from their website and wants it printed on a large banner. You should be able to recognize the quality issue, request vector or higher-resolution artwork, recreate/vectorize the logo when appropriate, and explain the potential quality problem to the customer.
Color-managed artwork:
A TIFF contains an embedded color profile and needs to be resized. You should understand that raster and color-critical adjustments should be completed correctly in Photoshop before the image is placed into Illustrator or InDesign.
Files without bleed:
You receive artwork with no bleed and important text positioned too close to the trim line. You should recognize the problem before production, correctly extend background artwork where possible, move critical information into the safe area, and contact the customer when a design decision or approval is required. Candidate Assessment Qualified applicants may be asked to complete a short Prepress Skills Assessment covering: File setup and prepress fundamentals Adobe software knowledge Color and resolution Raster and vector artwork Bleed and safe areas Print-ready file preparation Preflighting Large-format production concepts Real-world customer artwork scenarios Candidates demonstrating strong foundational knowledge may advance to a hands-on or practical interview. Why This Position Matters At GGWerks, artwork preparation directly impacts production quality, turnaround time, customer satisfaction, material waste, and profitability. We are looking for a graphics professional who understands that the goal is not simply to make artwork look good on a computer screen—the goal is to make sure the finished printed product looks right when it leaves production.
