Job Description

Walrus Audio is looking for a Graphic Designer to join our team in Oklahoma City. We make effects pedals, but we're really in the business of making people want to pick up an instrument and make some noise. We're looking for a Graphic Designer with 4+ years of professional experience who knows their way around the Adobe Creative Cloud, can take a project from a rough idea to a polished final piece, and still gets excited when the brief changes halfway through the day.
WHAT THE GIG LOOKS LIKE
You'll work closely with our Creative Director and Marketing team on projects including: Design creative for product launches, campaigns, advertising, web, email, social media, print, and events, from the initial idea all the way through launch Maintain and extend the Walrus Audio visual language across layouts, typography, illustration, promotional materials, and product graphics Build new marketing materials from existing photography, illustration, and brand assets Prepare artwork for both digital and print production Help develop and create social media content, and assist with scheduling when needed Style, light, shoot, and edit product photography, along with employees, artists, events, and the occasional weird thing that needs photographing Jump into video projects when needed, including editing, motion graphics, and animation, and bring existing design assets to life through motion Help solve creative problems: big, small, expected, and completely out of left field Ad-hoc duties for the Creative Director, Director of Sales & Marketing, Chief of Operations, and Chief Executive Officer, including the occasional "Hey, can you make this thing really quick?" request
THE ESSENTIALS
4+ years of professional graphic design experience A strong portfolio that demonstrates excellent design fundamentals and professional-level execution Fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign A strong understanding of typography, composition, layout, color, and visual hierarchy Experience working within an established brand while still bringing your own creative thinking to the table The ability to own projects independently and manage multiple deadlines without letting the quality of the work slip Strong communication and collaboration skills
BONUS POINTS
None of these are required, but they might bump you up the list of callbacks: Motion and video work in After Effects, Premiere Pro, and/or DaVinci Resolve, including animation, compositing, and visual effects Creating and scheduling short-form video and other content for social media Product photography, including studio lighting, strobes, cameras, lenses, tabletop work, and Lightroom or RAW workflows Basic audio recording and editing experience Knowledge of guitars, effects pedals, recording, or music production. You play guitar. You record guitar. You can tell the difference between a Tube Screamer and a Klon without looking at the enclosure. Playing guitar or recording is not required. But you'll be designing for people who love music and the tools they make it with, so familiarity with that world helps.
YOU'RE SOMEONE WHO
Stays with a problem until it is actually solved, and cares about the small things along the way. Kerning, alignment, color, file prep. Takes a project and runs with it without needing to be told what to do at every step. Has the mindset of "see a need, fill a need." Wants the work to be the best in the category and does not cut corners to get there. Takes direction and hard feedback without losing your creative voice or your composure, and stays flexible when priorities change. Is willing to learn something new when the project calls for it, and gets better every round. If designing a launch campaign one day and photographing a pedal on a tabletop the next gives you the warm fuzzies, we'd love to meet you.
SCHEDULE & EXPECTATIONS
Monday through Friday in office, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST (1-hour lunch between 11:00 and 1:00) Occasional flexibility or additional hours for product launches, photo and video shoots, events, concerts, and trade shows Major holidays observed
