Job Description

Overview We're seeking a highly detail-oriented Senior Production & Graphic Designer who can confidently take projects from concept through final delivery with accuracy, efficiency, and minimal oversight. The ideal candidate is an experienced designer who can step into the role ready to contribute, make sound decisions, and take ownership of assigned projects. About the Role This role requires a strong balance of creative design skills and technical production expertise. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of typography, hierarchy, layout, readability, and brand consistency, along with the technical knowledge to prepare files for print, digital, vendor, and large-format production workflows. The ideal candidate is proactive, identifies potential issues before they become problems, asks thoughtful questions when clarification is needed, and consistently delivers polished, production-ready work. Because this position supports multiple clients and brands, adaptability, organization, and accountability are essential. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced agency environment and manages multiple priorities effectively. Location We strongly prefer candidates who currently reside in Montana or are located within the Mountain or Pacific time zones and can work reliably within our agency's schedule. Candidates outside of Montana who are interested in relocating to the Helena area are encouraged to apply. For local team members, we offer flexibility for both in-office and remote work while valuing the collaboration and connection that come from working together in person. Responsibilities Design and produce marketing materials across print and digital platforms Interpret vendor specifications and prepare accurate, production-ready files for print, finishing, digital, and large-format applications Create layouts for ads, billboards, brochures, direct mail, event materials, signage, social graphics, menus, business cards, branded collateral, and a wide range of other marketing materials Adapt campaigns across multiple sizes, formats, and applications while maintaining brand consistency and visual hierarchy Anticipate how each piece will function in its final environment and account for production requirements before submitting work for review Identify production concerns, missing information, and potential issues early in the process Apply revisions accurately and thoroughly Maintain organized files, version control, and final deliverables Review final deliverables for copy accuracy, spelling and grammar, sizing and alignment, image quality, QR codes and links, color setup, and export settings What We're Looking For Strong typography, layout, and visual hierarchy skills Exceptional attention to detail and production accuracy Sound judgment when interpreting creative direction without overly prescriptive instructions Confidence working from evolving briefs and asking thoughtful clarifying questions when needed Strong problem-solving skills related to layout, copy, production, and file setup Self-motivation to work independently and keep projects moving efficiently Strong understanding of design requirements across print, outdoor, direct mail, social, and digital platforms Excellent organizational and file management habits Effective management of multiple deadlines and priorities Strong balance of creativity, speed, and production realities Professional approach to receiving direct feedback and implementing revisions Required Technical Skills Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Professional print production and prepress experience Strong understanding of vendor print specifications and requirements Advanced knowledge of bleed, trim, and safe-area setup Strong understanding of CMYK and spot-color workflows Experience preparing files for specialty print finishes, including spot UV, foil, and varnish Understanding of large-format and billboard production, including readability at scale Proficiency with InDesign tables, styles, and other production tools Experience managing multi-version production workflows Expertise in packaging and exporting accurate, production-ready files Role Expectations (This role requires): Independent execution and sound decision-making Strong self-review and quality-control habits Reliable follow-through and accountability Critical thinking about how work will perform beyond the screen Clear communication regarding progress, questions, deadlines, and production concerns Reliability, responsiveness, and professionalism This is a senior-level role rather than an entry-level or training position. Candidates should come into the position with the technical proficiency and production experience necessary to work independently, including confidence with InDesign, print production, file organization, and standard production workflows. Nice to Have (Additional experience in any of the following areas is a plus): Agency or multi-client environments Political or direct mail production Large-format or outdoor advertising Magazines, catalogs, directories, listings, tables, or other data-heavy layouts Specialty print production and finishing Web design Figma and ClickUp Application Requirements (A complete application will include): Portfolio examples demonstrating both creative design skills and production expertise Examples of print production or prepress work Examples of campaigns or designs adapted across multiple sizes, formats, or applications Candidates who advance in the interview process will be asked to complete a practical design and production exercise to demonstrate both creative and technical proficiency.
Pay:
$21.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
