Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
An experienced Body Structure Engineer is needed to develop the next generation of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles. This role is central to new vehicle development programs and is responsible for all aspects of development, from early-stage concept work through launch. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Design and develop body floor structures in CAD and support prototype builds including: Concept generation and mock ups All prototype, design verification, and process verification builds Plan for design, procurement, assembly, and validation requirements and align them with overall project timing and deliverables such as Stage Gate and APQP. Ensure designs conform to quality and cost targets and suggest low cost alternatives. Support design commonization efforts. Collaborate in the design of body structure fixtures. Lead design reviews and collaborate with cross functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Portfolio to ensure design accounts for all requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Experience with vehicle body structures design, sheet metal fabrication, and welding processes including ARC and resistance spot welding Proficiency in metal forming and various joining methods Knowledge of materials and their applications in automotive design Working knowledge of materials used in current production vehicles Understanding of design requirements and best practices for selecting and joining materials Knowledge of vehicle systems and industry standards and their impact on body structure design Solid experience with quality, design, and validation tools including FEA, DFA and DFM, DOE, DPFMEA, DVP and R, problem solving methods such as 8D, GD and T, and tolerance stack up Understanding of FMVSS standards Strong written and verbal communication skills Organized with strong attention to detail Ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet project milestones Demonstrated problem solving and analytical ability Prototype fabrication and welding knowledge preferred Proficiency in CAD tools such as Inventor, PLM systems such as Teamcenter, and Microsoft Office
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field 5 years of experience in automotive body structures design preferred Previous assembly plant launch experience preferred Dimensional management and understanding of GD and T preferred Experience with structural design, including steel and aluminum parts and manufacturing required Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Winamac, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $110000.00/yr. They are a large national company with multiple sites nationwide They are making major facility upgrades and automation upgrades. Their will be a variety of ways to build a variety skillsets that you can use to grow internally or take with you. They will give you automotive experience and manufacturing for consumer products as well. They have a company 401k match up to 40%. Good work environement.
