DAC Product Design Engineer will assist in the development and implementation of non-critical product designs without direct supervision. Additionally, ensuring implementation of necessary procedures and work instructions to meet requirements of product design system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work on design projects as assigned by the Manager of Product Design / Engineering; Design and improve the existing truck/automotive steering columns for manufacturability, assembly, and cost effectiveness;
  • Work on safety critical components/features, under direct supervision of a Project Engineer or Manager of Product Design/Engineering;
  • Design product (truck/automotive steering columns) in teams and individually using CAD (Incumbent must be proficient in use of CAD or training in the program);
  • Perform analysis of product: stress analysis, tolerance analysis (stack-up analysis) etc. and also document these analysis for various presentations;
  • Participate in DFMEA, PFMEA, & DFM, tolerance stack ups;
  • Identify, validate and implement design and process changes related to VA/VE;
  • Implement Engineering Change Orders for the steering column changes;
  • Oversee prototype and testing activities on assigned projects;
  • Utilization of design software Solidworks and Microsoft Office;
  • Optional utilization of design software UG, Ideas, or Catia;
  • Apply understanding of manufacturing, economics, design, materials, blue prints, GD&T, drafting, QMS procedures, and validation of product and verification of design;
  • Report and spreadsheet presentations as required;
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Manager of Product Design / Engineering. Requirements
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional environment, as well as a manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This role also is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. This role may also work in the Prototype and Test lab. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent;
  • Preferred one year automotive or heavy truck experience;
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Team player;
  • Self-motivated.

  • This position requires the incumbent to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally and regularly requires walking, sitting, talking, and using hands to finger, handle or feel.
The employee may occasionally lift, unassisted, up to 25 pounds. The employee will be required to use a computer for extended periods of time and talk on the phone. Specific vision abilities required by this job are close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position may require extended hours and possible weekend work. TRAVEL Travel to vendor and customer worksites may be required.
