Responsible for the aesthetics of the product but also designing how it will work, defining the problem and solving it. May be responsible for producing low-fidelity mock ups, prototypes for validation through user testing and crafting the final product accordingly.

  • Join the IBM Research design team and help create compelling content that showcases world-changing innovation across IBM Research's four strategic pillars: Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Hybrid Cloud, and Semi Conductors.
You will collaborate with researchers, marketers, and designers to develop visual storytelling, digital content, and creative assets that communicate breakthrough discoveries and technologies to global audiences.
  • Your role and responsibilities
  • As an intern, you will support the design team in creating digital, print, and presentation assets. Assist with concept development, visual design execution, and maintaining brand consistency across projects. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute creative ideas throughout the design process.
  • Required technical and professional expertise
  • Great attention to detail and a strong eye for visual craft, such as composition, typography, and layout.
  • Fluency in interaction design and prototyping, to express and refine nuanced design decisions.
  • A track record of independently driving design processes from discovery through launch—balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business goals.
  • The ability to guide decision-making with structured thinking, clearly articulated rationale, and user-centered research.
  • Experience researching, prototyping, or building products with AI and other emerging tools to uncover new patterns for creativity and collaboration.
  • Preferred technical and professional experience
  • A design/development hybrid background, or experience building websites or apps.
  • A history of working on canvas-based interfaces or tools that support creative workflows.
  • Prior work involving design systems, like creating, maintaining, or contributing to a design system.
