Job Description
Description As a Senior Design System Designer, you will play a key role in shaping and scaling the client Design System. You will lead component design efforts, influence system architecture, establish standards, and partner cross-functionally with design and engineering teams to deliver a world-class design system capable of supporting multiple vehicle programs and digital experiences. This role requires strong systems thinking, deep Figma expertise, and the ability to independently drive component development, documentation, governance, and cross-functional alignment. What you'll do:
- Lead creation and evolution of the Design System component library.
- Design, update, and maintain complex components, patterns, tokens, and scalable system frameworks within Figma.
- Drive consistency, quality, and governance across the design system ecosystem.
- Establish documentation standards and contribute to component specifications, usage guidance, accessibility guidance, and implementation requirements.
- Collaborate closely with development teams to ensure accurate translation of design system assets into production-ready experiences.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for component architecture, system scaling, and design system best practices.
- Support and mentor other design system contributors through reviews, guidance, and design critiques.
- Partner with UI, visual design, and engineering teams to solve complex system challenges and improve design system adoption.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, reduce bottlenecks, and create reusable assets across the organization. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in HCI, Graphic Design, Visual Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience focused on design systems, UI systems, product design, or digital product experiences.
- Extensive experience building, governing, and scaling enterprise-level design systems.
- Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including component architecture, variants, libraries, tokens, and documentation.
- Proven experience creating and maintaining robust component libraries used across multiple product teams.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating design systems work, component creation, governance, and systems thinking.
- Experience partnering with engineering teams to support implementation and resolve design system challenges.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders across design and development organizations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while driving initiatives forward. Additional Skills & Qualifications What Will Give You A Competitive Edge
- Experience building design systems supporting multiple platforms such as vehicle, mobile, and web.
- Strong background in accessibility and inclusive design standards.
- Experience establishing governance frameworks and adoption strategies for enterprise design systems.
- Experience mentoring designers and contributing to design operations practices.
- Familiarity with front-end implementation, design tokens, and design-to-development workflows.
- Automotive, mobility, or embedded product experience.
- Portfolio examples demonstrating large-scale design system ownership, strategic systems thinking, and cross-functional leadership. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Warren, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00
