Job Description

Associate Interior Designer
  • Part-Time Cam Cooke Designs is hiring a local Associate Interior Designer to support active luxury residential projects across Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.
This is a part-time, hybrid role for an experienced design professional who is strong in sourcing, mood boards, materials, styling, samples, and project completion. Most desk-based work can be completed remotely, but regular local fieldwork is required, including in-office meetings, client site visits, showroom visits, sample pickups, sourcing trips, and project-related errands. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys contributing to an established studio aesthetic, developing thoughtful design options, organizing design information, and helping rooms move from concept to completion. About the Role The Associate Interior Designer will help move active projects forward by creating strong design starting points, sourcing viable selections, coordinating samples, preparing rendering briefs, and helping complete the final layers of each space. This is a creative, hands-on, detail-oriented role for someone who loves interiors, materials, sourcing, styling, and seeing spaces fully come together. This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys contributing to a studio point of view, developing thoughtful design options, organizing design information, and helping projects move from concept to completion. What You'll Do Design Concepts + Mood Boards
  • Create initial mood boards and design direction for active rooms and spaces by sourcing viable selections from trade sources.
  • Source furniture, lighting, textiles, materials, fixtures, finishes, decor, art, and styling pieces.
  • Develop design options that align with the Cam Cooke Designs aesthetic: modern, warm, refined, architectural, desert-informed, collected, and high-end without feeling overly trendy or generic.
  • Prepare clear internal proposals for review by the Principal Designer.
  • Help turn partially developed rooms into organized, brand-aligned design options that can move forward. Sourcing + Sample Coordination
  • Source furnishings, lighting, rugs, textiles, tile, stone, plumbing, hardware, art, decor, accessories, and styling pieces.
  • Evaluate selections for availability, lead time, scale, budget fit, durability, quality, and design alignment.
  • Identify which physical samples are needed for each room or project.
  • Coordinate sample orders, pickups, returns, deliveries, and organization.
  • Visit local showrooms, stores, vendors, fabricators, and job sites as needed.
  • Prepare sample groupings by project, room, material category, or decision point. Rendering + Presentation Briefs
  • Create clear briefs for renderings, drawings, and visual development.
  • Include room direction, required views, camera angles, finish notes, furniture selections, lighting, plumbing, hardware, materials, styling direction, and unresolved design questions.
  • Organize information so the technical designer can efficiently produce drawings, renderings, or client-facing presentation materials.
  • Flag missing information, unclear design decisions, or items that need approval before visual work begins. Project Completion + Styling
  • Help move rooms from "mostly designed" to fully finished.
  • Identify missing final details such as art, lamps, mirrors, bedding, pillows, accessories, towels, hooks, hardware, trays, vessels, greenery, and styling objects.
  • Proactively propose completion plans for rooms that have stalled after major furniture, construction, or renovation decisions have been made.
  • Help ensure every space feels resolved, intentional, and ready for install, photography, or client handoff. Local Field Support
  • Assist with showroom visits, sample pickups, returns, vendor visits, client-site errands, sourcing trips, and occasional project-related pickups.
  • Meet vendors, trades, or contractors for simple coordination tasks when needed.
  • Support hands-on local project needs that keep work moving.
  • Drive regularly throughout Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley for project-related needs. Team Structure This role works within an established design team that includes:
  • Principal Designer:
creative direction, final design review, and client-facing design leadership
  • Program Director:
project management, client success, timelines, and priorities
  • FF&E +
Procurement Coordinator:
purchasing, vendor coordination, order tracking, receiving, and installation support
  • Technical Designer:
plans, drawings, renderings, and client-facing visual presentations
  • Accounting +
Finance Support:
expense tracking, invoicing support, and financial documentation This role sits in the middle of the design workflow: helping take active spaces from "not started," "partially developed," or "almost finished" into clear, organized, brand-aligned proposals that can be reviewed, refined, and moved forward. What This Role Is This is a creative design support role within a growing luxury residential design studio. It is ideal for someone who enjoys:
  • Developing thoughtful design options
  • Sourcing beautiful and viable selections
  • Working across multiple active projects
  • Organizing design information clearly
  • Solving missing pieces
  • Supporting an established studio aesthetic
  • Helping projects move from concept to completion What This Role Is Not This is not a solo lead-designer role or senior design director position.
The right person will be comfortable supporting an established studio point of view, working collaboratively, and helping bring the firm's design work to life with consistency and care. This is not primarily a client-facing role, though there may be occasional client-site or vendor-facing interactions. This is not a technical drafting or rendering role. Those functions are already supported by the team. CAD, SketchUp, rendering, or drafting experience is helpful, but not required. This is not a procurement-only role. Purchasing, order tracking, vendor coordination, and receiving are already supported by the team, though this role will collaborate closely on sourcing, samples, item readiness, and completion details. This is not a remote-only role. Some work can be completed remotely, but the role requires local availability for site visits, sourcing trips, vendor errands, sample coordination, and occasional hands-on project support. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate can look across a full book of active work and quickly understand where design momentum is needed. You naturally think through questions like:
  • Which rooms need a starting concept?
  • Which spaces are partially designed but missing key details?
  • Which samples need to be sourced or reviewed?
  • Which selections are beautiful but not actually available or realistic?
  • Which renderings need to be briefed next?
  • Which rooms are close, but not truly finished? You are not waiting to be handed one perfectly defined task at a time. You are able to identify gaps, organize options, and bring thoughtful proposals forward for review. Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of interior design, design assistant, residential studio, showroom, styling, or related project experience
  • Strong eye for interiors, materials, scale, color, furnishings, lighting, styling, and finish coordination
  • Ability to create polished mood boards and internal design proposals
  • Strong sourcing skills across furniture, lighting, textiles, rugs, tile, stone, plumbing, hardware, art, decor, and accessories
  • Comfort evaluating availability, lead times, budget fit, scale, quality, durability, and overall design alignment
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple rooms, projects, samples, and open decisions at once
  • Comfortable working in a principal-led, team-based design environment
  • Able to take direction, ask thoughtful questions, refine quickly, and move work forward independently
  • Local to Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley, or the surrounding area
  • Comfortable driving to client sites, stores, showrooms, vendors, and project-related errands
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace required Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Asana, design software, AI tools, and similar design/project workflow tools
  • Familiarity with luxury residential design, remodeling, furnishings, styling, or construction-adjacent project work
  • Experience sourcing from trade vendors, local showrooms, retail sources, and online furniture/decor vendors
  • CAD, SketchUp, drafting, or rendering experience is a plus, but not required Schedule + Work Structure
  • Part-time, 20-30 hours per week to start
  • Mostly remote day-to-day work, with regular local in-person needs
  • Weekly in-person team meetings may be required
  • Schedule may vary based on project needs, site visits, sample coordination, sourcing trips, vendor appointments, and weekly workflow
