Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Make an impact by supporting young learners in an elementary school setting as an on-site Sign Language Interpreter. This contract opportunity offers the chance to work one-on-one with a student in a vibrant and engaging educational environment near Huntsville, AL. You'll provide essential communication support that fosters both confidence and academic growth in your student.
Key Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in a school setting Ability to facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers in both educational and social situations Strong understanding of elementary curriculum and age-appropriate interaction Professional demeanor and reliability Commitment to confidentiality and adherence to ethical interpreting guidelines
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one interpreting services for a designated elementary student during classroom activities and throughout the school day Assist with both academic instruction and extra-curricular settings as needed, ensuring equal access for the student Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other school professionals to support the student's Individualized Education Plan Clearly interpret spoken language into sign and vice versa for all communications Maintain a supportive and inclusive environment for the student's full participation Handle documentation and daily reporting as required by the school This on-site role is structured for 37.5 hours per week, giving you the opportunity to build meaningful connections and routine.
