Essential Skills and Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with a strong grasp of interpreting in academic contexts Experience working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, ideally supporting students in schools Certification or credentials appropriate for educational interpreting (such as EIPA, RID, or state certification) Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and support personnel to ensure inclusive communication Professionalism, reliability, and a genuine commitment to supporting learners of all ages Adaptability to varied classroom settings and comfortable interpreting for both group and individualized learning situations
Key Responsibilities:
Provide real-time sign language interpretation during classroom instruction, school events, meetings, and other activities Facilitate clear communication between students, educators, families, and staff Assist in adapting instructional materials and classroom interactions to meet the specific needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting Help foster an inclusive, supportive atmosphere enabling all students to reach their potential
